What is Revelation 20:10 about?
This verse is about a future prophecy of the Devil who deceived the whole world, and is referring to his final judgment and punishment on judgement day where the devil and the beast and the false prophet will be thrown, into the lake of fire and brimstone.
However, the confusion is that most of Christianity believe and teach the devil will never die, but will instead because of the false translations with the words saying (FOREVER AND EVER, implying a NEVER ENDING, they then wrongly believe and conclude the devil will BURN (FOREVER AND EVER) and will never die.
So in this article I will share my research with you, showing you the Biblical facts of how GOD will DESTROY the devil (FOREVER AND EVER) in the lake of fire as the unsaved.
Let's start off with seeing the many false translations below saying: (FOREVER AND EVER).
New International Version
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night (for ever and ever).
New Living Translation
Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night (forever and ever).
English Standard Version
and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night (forever and ever).
Berean Study Bible

The first obvious fact seen here in these false translations above in Revelation 20:10 is identical to the many false translations of Revelation 14:11.
Notice the correct translation of Revelation 20:10 below in the Berean Literal Bible:
And the devil, the one deceiving them, was cast into the lake of fire and of sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet also are; and they will be tormented day and night to the (ages of the ages).
Se we see again, just as we saw in Revelation 14:11, that the correct words say: (ages of the ages), and do not say: forever and ever.
And just as we saw in Revelation 14:11, the words (ages of the ages) means a space of time, an age, a cycle (of time), a period of time, and NOT (FOREVER AND EVER), wrongly implying (FOREVER AND EVER) NEVER ENDS.
The next confusion within the Christian world is that most Christians believe Angels are immortal, meaning Angels can never die.
However I will show you by seeing the Biblical facts how Angels and demands being immortal is false.
This is because when Angels and demands sin and rebel against the One True GOD, they can also be DESTROYED, because anything that GOD has created, GOD can DESTROY.
Jeremiah 32:17
Ah Lord Yahweh! Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm; there is nothing too hard for you.
But because of GOD's amazing Righteousness, GOD will NEVER Kill or Destroy the Righteous.
What most of Christianity do not know or understand is that there is only one person ALONE who always had immortality.
The person who always had immortality is found in 1 Timothy 6:15-16
15 which He will display in the own seasons, blessed and alone Sovereign, the King of those being kings, and the Lord of those being lords, 16 alone having immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no one of men has seen nor is able to see, to whom be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
As we read in 1 Timothy 6:15-16 the ONLY ONE PERSON who had immortality is Yahweh GOD, which is precisely why Yahweh GOD is called: THE ONLY ONE TRUE GOD.
In fact the very next verse tells us in 1 Timothy 6:17 that Yahweh GOD is the ONLY immortal, invisible, ONLY GOD:
Now to the King of the ages, the immortal, invisible, only God, be honor and glory to the ages of the ages. Amen.
And this is why Yahweh GOD told His people to pray every day saying: Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God; Yahweh is ONE: (PERSON) Deuteronomy 6:4.
As Yahweh GOD is the ONLY immortal, invisible, ONLY GOD, then this is why Angels and demands and humans who sin and rebel against the One True GOD can and will be DESTROYED.
Genesis 6:3
Yahweh said, "My Spirit will not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; yet will his days be one hundred twenty years."
Notice how Adam was made immortal, but because He sinned against GOD, became mortal and died Genesis 2:15-17
15 Yahweh God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it; for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die."
Notice how Jesus was also a MAN and was mortal, who also died, proving Jesus was not GOD, but was raised by GOD from the DEAD and was made like GOD immortal: John 5:26
For as the Father has life in Himself, so also He gave to the Son to have life in Himself.
Because Jesus was the only MAN to overcome and do the will of GOD, He was therefore made immortal: Hebrews 5:9
and having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all those obeying Him.
John 6:57
As the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one feeding on Me, he also will live because of Me.
But what about the devil and His angels and the demons?
Where does the Bible teach the devil and His angels and the demons can be DESTROYED and DIE?
Notice what we read in Hebrews 2:14

So we read:

Strong's Concordance

Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: katargeó

Definition: to render inoperative, abolish
Usage: (a) I make idle (inactive), make of no effect, annul, abolish, bring to naught, (b) I discharge, sever, separate from.
We also read in Mark 1:24 and Luke 4:34 how GOD will (DESTROY) the demons:
And having cried in a loud voice, he said, "What to me and to You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure You by God, do not torment me."
Notice how the demons understood that Jesus was the Son of the Most High God, and said nothing about Jesus being GOD.
Luke 4:34
"Ha! What to us and to You, Jesus of Nazareth? Are You come to (DESTROY) us? I know who You are, the Holy One of God!"
We read again ABOVE how the demons thought they were going to be (DESTROYED) before their time.
Notice the meaning of the Greek word (apollumi ἀπολέσαι) in the Strong's Concordance:
apollumi: to destroy, destroy utterly Definition: to destroy, destroy utterly
Usage: (a) I kill, destroy, (b) I lose, mid: I am perishing (the resultant death being viewed as certain).
WHERE in the whole Bible does abolish or the Greek word (apollumi ἀπολέσαι) meaning (DESTROY) ever mean (ETERNAL LIFE) or (EVERLASTING LIFE)?
Notice how Revelation 11:18 tells us how GOD will DESTROY THOSE WHO ARE DESTROYING THE EARTH:
And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and to give the reward to Your servants, the prophets, and to the saints, and to those fearing Your name, the small and the great, and to DESTROY those who are destroying the earth."
2 Corinthians 4:4 tells us that the devil is the God of this world, and Jesus told us in John 10:10 how the Devil might DESTROY and be himself DESTROYED.
And Hebrews 2:14 tells us

and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
1 John 3:8
The one practicing sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this reason the Son of God was revealed, so that He might destroy the works of the devil.
Psalm 37:38
As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together. The future of the wicked shall be cut off.
Notice again in Psalm 37:38 how we do not read the transgressors, meaning those who rebel, will BURN DAY AND NIGHT FOR EVER AND EVER, but will instead be DESTROYED.
Psalm 37:38 even goes on to explain the wicked will be cut off, meaning to cease, destroy, kill, and perish.
As we have read in the scriptures above teaching how the devil and his works, and the demons and the one practicing sin will NOT BURN in HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOR EVER AND EVER but will instead be utterly DESTROYED.
But please hold on as I share more Biblical fact with you.
What have we seen so far?
We have seen by examining the correct translation of Revelation 20:10 does not have the words saying (forever and ever), which deceives us into believing (NEVER ENDING).
But instead the correct translation of Revelation 20:10 has the words saying (ages of ages), meaning (a cycle of time).
And as the correct translation of Revelation 20:10 says (ages of ages), meaning (a cycle of time), that alone proves there is an END.
Because (a cycle of time) is a short part of time, that does not go on FOREVER and EVER.
Now we understand (ages of ages), means (a cycle of time), that comes to an END.
What about the words we have not examined?
What did John mean in the rest of the verse of Revelation 20:10 saying:
There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever, seems to still imply the devil will BURN IN HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER.
So what did John mean by saying: And the devil, the one deceiving them, was cast into the lake of fire and of sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet also are; and they will be tormented day and night to the ages of the ages.
Friends, just as we saw in: Part 1. The true meaning of Revelation 14:11
The simple answer is again given in Isaiah 34:10.
Let me again please UNCOVER and share this hidden treasure with you.
Notice in both verses of Revelation 20:10 and Isaiah 34:10, by me adding the verses side by side:
Revelation 20:10
and they will be tormented day and night to the ages of the ages.
Isaiah 34:10
It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever.
From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever.
Did you see what I saw?
We can all see something very obvious.
Revelation 20:10 says: and they will be tormented day and night to the ages of the ages.
And Revelation 14:11 says: And the smoke of their torment goes up, have no rest day and night.
And BOTH verses of Revelation 20:10, and Revelation 14:11, is virtually identical with Isaiah 34:10 which says:
It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever.
So what we find is that Revelation 20:10, and Revelation 14:11 is a idiom and reference from the Old Testament of Isaiah 34:10.
And in the END of the verse of Isaiah 34:10, we have a clear explanation to the meaning of: It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever.
Isaiah 34:10 goes on to explain the meaning by saying: From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever.
Isaiah 34:10 is NOT saying: From generation to generation, Edom will keep on BURNING FOR EVER AND EVER, but is instead figurative and representative of COMPLETE destruction.
Isaiah 34:10 proves that Revelation 20:10, and Revelation 14:11 is NOT literal of literal FIRE BURNING for EVER AND EVER with NO END, but is figurative and symbolic of absolute DESTRUCTION by literal FIRE BURNING and DESTROYING FOR EVER AND EVER.
In fact the Bible is full of figurative and symbolic meanings from the beginning to the end, which can take different forms.
just as Jesus often spoke in Parables and figuratively: John 16:25
I have spoken these things to you in allegories; an hour is coming when I will speak to you no more in allegories, but I will report to you plainly concerning the Father.
Matthew 13:34
Jesus spoke all these things to the crowds in parables, and He was not speaking to them without a parable,
And we also know that the kingdom of Edom which Isaiah 34:10 is referring to is NOT BURNING, but was DESTROYED.
Just as we read in Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible tells us:
It shall not be quenched night nor day,.... It will be long burning, and shall not be extinguished until it is utterly consumed. The burning of Rome will continue long, especially the smoke of it; the kings of the earth, and others, are represented as standing and looking at it, and lamenting for it, Revelation 18:9,
the smoke thereof shall go up for ever; this very phrase is what will be used by the saints in their "allelujahs", at the burning of Rome, Revelation 19:3 with which compare Revelation 14:11,
from generation to generation it shall lie waste; the land shall be no more manured and cultivated, nor the city rebuilt; when Babylon is once fallen, it shall never be raised up again, but always remain desolate, Revelation 18:2,
none shall pass through it for ever and ever; no inhabitant in it, nor traveller through it; it will be so horrible and terrible, as none will care to dwell there, yea, not so much as to travel through it; see Jeremiah 49:18.
Here are a few biblical facts to consider.
We know demons are fallen angels, who can suffer, as told in Matthew 8:29 and Luke 8:28 And behold, they cried out saying, "What to us and to you Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?"
The Greek word for torment is (βασανίσαι) and means in the Strong's Concordance Definition: (to torture).
Luke 8:28
And having seen Jesus, having cried out, he fell down before Him and said in a loud voice, "What to me and to You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore of You that You might not torment me!"
Psalm 104:35
Let sinners be consumed out of the earth. Let the wicked be no more. Bless Yahweh, my soul. Praise Yah!
This explains why we read in Revelation 20:10 that the devil will be tormented:

We also know that Angels are ministering spirits without bodies. Hebrews 1:14
Which explains why Revelation 20:10 does not say as in Revelation 14:11: And the smoke of their torment goes up.
As Angels do not have bodies, they would not produce SMOKE, as would the unsaved of the physical bodies in Revelation 14:11
2 Peter 2:4
For if God did not spare the angels having sinned, but having cast them down to Tartarus, in chains of gloomy darkness, delivered them, being kept for judgment.
We see in 2 Peter 2:4 how fallen angels are punished by being cast down to Tartarus, in chains of gloomy darkness, which must be a metaphor for sinful angels being detained, because angels do not have physical bodies to wear chains.
We know smoke is created from burning something that is perishable, which adds up to why we are told in Revelation 14:11 how the lost people will burn and create SMOKE: And the smoke of their torment goes up.
And as the unsaved of the physical bodies in Revelation 14:11 create SMOKE from the burning, that is evidence the unsaved physical bodies are perishing, and DYING, and not burning FOR EVER AND EVER.
And Jesus did say in Matthew 10:28 that GOD can DESTROY the BODY in HELL, proving GOD will raise the DEAD unsaved BODIES to punish in HELL.
SMOKE comes from burning perishable things like paper, wood, or flesh.
Which explains why Revelation 20:10 does not say as in Revelation 14:11: And the smoke of their torment goes up.
So as Angels do not have physical bodies they will not make any SMOKE from burning.
Most Christians believe Angels cannot experience physical death.
But as I said before, what GOD creates, If the Good turn bad, then GOD can and will DESTROY the bad, as we see will happen to the devil and the demons who are fallen angels:
Notice how Revelation 11:18 tells us how GOD will DESTROY THOSE WHO ARE DESTROYING THE EARTH:

The words saying (day and night), also sound like they mean the Devil and the unsaved will BURN DAY and NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER, right?
We already know that the words saying (FOR EVER AND EVER), are instead (ages of ages), meaning (a cycle of time).
And if (DAY and NIGHT) also means the devil and the unsaved will BURN (DAY and NIGHT) FOREVER AND EVER, as taught by most Christians, then we have some more serious Bible CONTRADICTIONS.
This is because Revelation 22:5 tells us (day and night) will NOT go on (FOR EVER AND EVER), because in the END of this (AGE), and in the NEW (AGE) of Creation by GOD and Jesus, there will be NO (NIGHT), and NO SUN that gives light, because Yahweh the One True GOD will become our light and shield, who will only SHINE on the righteous.
Revelation 22:5
And there will be no night there, and they have no need of the light of a lamp and of the light of the sun, because the Lord God will enlighten upon them, and they will reign to the ages of the ages.
As we read if the unsaved are burning (day and night) FOR EVER AND EVER, when there will be NO (day and night) this simply CONTRADICTS the coming Bible prophesies saying there will be NO MORE DAYS and NIGHTS ever again, because the Lord God becomes our day light shining on the righteous with love, power, peace, joy and glory.
So if NIGHTS END, as we see in the coming Bible prophesies, so does the devil and the unsaved burning (day and night) END, because there is no (day or night), but only GOD Himself shining as light.
And as we read in Revelation 21:4 there will be NO MORE mourning nor crying nor pain, then the lake of fire and brimstone, must DESTROY all evil FOR EVER AND EVER.
Revelation 21:4
And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more nor mourning nor crying nor pain; they will be no more, because the former things have passed away."
Mark 9:43
And if your hand should cause you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than having two hands to go away into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire.
Above in Mark 9:43 we read how unrepentant sinners will go away into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire.
Unquenchable fire simply means the fire will not go out until it burns and DESTROYS.
Just as we read in Hebrews 2:14

Matthew 25:41
Then also He will say to those on the left, 'Depart from Me, those being cursed, into the eternal fire, having been prepared for the devil and his angels.
Eternal fire simply means it will BURN and DESTROY Eternally for eternity.
Luke 3:17
of whom the winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into His barn. But He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
Notice the meaning of Luke 3:17 saying: But He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
The meaning of Luke 3:17 is found in
Revelation 21:8 tells us the lake of Fire will be the SECOND DEATH, NOT ETERNAL LIFE, BUT ETERNAL DEATH.
But to the cowardly and unbelieving and having become abominable and murderers and the sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their portion is in the lake burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
And in Mathew 10:28 Jesus tells us to fear GOD, who is able to DESTROY the unsaved:
And you should not be afraid of those killing the body but not being able to kill the soul. Indeed rather you should fear the One being able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
We never do read Jesus saying GOD will keep the unsaved burning in HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOR EVER AND EVER, but instead Jesus says GOD will DESTROY the unsaved in the lake of fire Gehenna.
Conclusion.
Revelation 20:10 does not have the words saying (forever and ever), which deceives us into believing (NEVER ENDING).
But instead the correct translation of Revelation 20:10 has the words saying (ages of ages), meaning (a cycle of time).
And Revelation 14:11 says: And the smoke of their torment goes up.
And as the unsaved of the physical bodies in Revelation 14:11 create SMOKE from the burning, that is evidence the unsaved physical bodies are perishing, and DYING, and not burning FOR EVER AND EVER.
Psalm 37:20 World English Bible
But the wicked shall perish. The enemies of Yahweh shall be like the beauty of the fields. They will vanish-- vanish like smoke.
The words saying: (day and night) are in both verses of Revelation 14:11 and Revelation 20:10 saying: And the smoke of their torment goes up, have no rest day and night. Revelation 20:10 And the devil, the one deceiving them, was cast into the lake of fire and of sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet also are; and they will be tormented day and night to the ages of the ages. (a cycle of time).
The unsaved cannot keep on burning (day and night) FOR EVER AND EVER, when there will be NO (day and night) which simply CONTRADICTS the coming Bible prophesies saying there will be NO MORE DAYS and NIGHTS ever again, because the Lord God becomes our day light shining on the righteous with love, power, peace, joy and glory.
And we also know that the kingdom of Edom which is in Isaiah 34:10 that John may have added to Revelation 14:11 and Revelation 20:10 is NOT STILL BURNING, but was DESTROYED.
2 Peter 2:6
and He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, having reduced them to ashes, having set an example of what is coming on the ungodly.
And we see in 2 Peter 2:6 how the EVER LASTING FIRE DESTROYED Sodom and Gomorrah and its people making them into ashes.
As Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed, and the people that lived there are not still alive burning, physically or spiritually, but are dead and gone as an example, then we know for sure the eternal fire means to destroy eternally and permanently.
We end with Barnes statement:
This image (Isaiah 34:10) has been copied by John to describe the future woes of the wicked Revelation 14:11, and of mystical Babylon Revelation 18:9, Revelation 18:18; Revelation 19:2-3.
So Barnes believes John copied Isaiah 34:10 to the future woes of the wicked in Revelation 14:11:
Revelation 14:11 says: And the smoke of their torment goes up, have no rest day and night,
And Isaiah 34:10 says:
It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever.
There we have it:
For the wages of sin is (DEATH) Romans 6:23, NOT ETERNAL LIFE IN FIRE.
The Bible prophecies prove there will be NO (DAY or NIGHT), therefore proving there will be NO ONE BURNING (DAY and NIGHT), because GOD The Father will be our light, shining on the righteous with pure delight, and power and glory (DAY and NIGHT).
Isaiah 34:9-10 proves the smoke rising (DAY and NIGHT) is simply figurative of destruction, Just as smoke goes up and disappears, as in the future prophecies of Revelation 14:11, and the destruction of Revelation 20:10.

My own experience of GOD's presence.
When I Simon Brown was a young teenager, I was lying down in bed in darkness trying to get to sleep, when I had an amazing vision, I was picked up by a hand, and then at a height I was looking down on the earth and could see the whole earth burning. I remember pinching my face to see if I was asleep dreaming, yet I was fully awake.
For many years I did not understand what was the meaning of my vision, until years later I started studying the Bible, to then discover 2 Peter 3:7: But by the same word now the heavens and the earth exist, having been stored up for fire, being kept unto the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
Was 2 Peter 3:7 the meaning of my vision?
When I was in my forties, I had another amazing GOD experience.
I was studying Bible archaeology for many weeks regarding who was the pharaoh of the exodus.
At this time while study on my computer, I suddenly felt heat similar to electricity enter in my head, and it travelled down through my body filling my whole belly with great feelings of love, peace and joy.
I told my wife Emma what just happened and how I was feeling, as if I had just taken some valium, and that I needed to lie down and enjoy this amazing experience of what I could only think was GOD's presence within me.
I continued to feel love, peace and joy as if it was glowing in me for a whole hour.
I then came to the understanding and felt GOD was showing me how the saved will literally live in GOD's love, light, peace, joy and presence, just as we read in Isaiah 60:19 The sun shall be no more your light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light to you: but Yahweh will be to you an everlasting light, and your God your glory.
Revelation 22:5
And there will be no night there, and they have no need of the light of a lamp and of the light of the sun, because the Lord God will enlighten upon them, and they will reign to the ages of the ages.
