Is God One or Three Persons?
One of the most important questions every Christian should ask is:
What does the Bible actually say?
The Old Testament
Moses declared:
"Hear, O Israel: Yahweh our God, Yahweh is one."Deuteronomy 6:4
This verse became the foundation of Israel's faith and was repeated daily by God's people.
Notice that Moses simply declares that Yahweh is one.
There is no mention of God being three persons or a Trinity.
Jesus Confirmed the Same Truth
When Jesus was asked which commandment was the greatest, He quoted Deuteronomy 6:4 without changing a single doctrine.
"The first is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.'"Mark 12:29
Jesus reaffirmed the same confession of faith that Israel had believed for centuries.
Again, there is no mention of three divine persons or a Trinity.
An Important Question
If Jesus intended His followers to believe that God is three persons in one being, why did He simply repeat the words:
"The Lord our God, the Lord is one."
Why did He not explain that God is three persons sharing one divine nature?
The New Testament records no such explanation in this passage.
Search the Scriptures
Every Christian should carefully compare what later doctrines teach with what Jesus and the Scriptures actually say.
The Bible repeatedly declares that there is one God, and Jesus identified the Father as "the only true God" (John 17:3).
For that reason, it is essential that our understanding of God is built upon the clear teaching of Scripture rather than later theological formulations.
OLD ARTICLE
Deuteronomy 6:4 tells us Yahweh GOD is ONE PERSON:
Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is ONE.
Which means ONE PERSON!
If GOD was THREE PERSONS called the TRINITY, Deuteronomy 6:4 would instead say:
Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is THREE.
Deuteronomy 6:4 is also confirmed by Jesus in Mark 12:29
Jesus answered, "The foremost is, 'Hear this O Israel: The Lord our God is ๐ONE ๐Lord, again which means ๐ONE PERSON! ๐ NOT TWO OR THREE
If GOD was THREE PERSONS called the TRINITY, Jesus would have instead said: The foremost is, 'Hear this O Israel: The Lord our God is ๐THREE!
To say and believe GOD is THREE PERSONS, is to believe in a false God, instead of The ONE TRUE GOD!
