King James Bible
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12.
What did Jesus mean by this statement?
When we sunbathe in the sunshine we soak up the UVB rays on our skin which provide us with a good source of about 90 to 95 per cent of vitamin D which in return reduces cholesterol and heart disease which makes us cheerful and happy because it boosts levels of serotonin, the body's natural, happy hormone. When we accept, trust and follow Jesus we live in a new hope. We have left the dark side to walk in new light just as we do when we switch on a torch in the dark and follow its bright ray to its destination.
When we follow Jesus he guides, us he has the power to change us and renew us, he fills our hearts with the great joy of a new life and peace to come.
As Jesus said to the blind man when he healed him and gave him sight. 'While I am in the world, I am the light of the world. John 9:5
This will be the same for all followers of Jesus when we leave this dark world we will live in a new world where there is no sun for Jesus will be our light for he is the power and glory which will shine in us and through us filling us with love peace and joy for ever.
If we are unbelievers we cannot see this light or understand its power just like we cannot see in the dark unless the sun shines. However by believing in Jesus we follow his teachings and live in a new, bright light, a light that will one day illuminates our lives for ever - a light that shines for ever cannot ever be extinguished.
Even as the sunbeams which shine down from heaven on the seeds planted in the ground, which grow by the rays and the grass, the shrubs and the flowers which spring up from the ground.
Even as the trees that bear their fruits and the birds that sing and whistle to Gods delight when the sun rises from the night then so will it be for those who trust in Jesus Christ.
For Jesus shall be our light and an everlasting delight.
