Colossians 1:15 is one of the most misunderstood verses in the New Testament.

Many Christians are taught that the phrase “firstborn of all creation” proves that Jesus pre-existed before His birth and that He created the Genesis creation.

But is this what Paul actually meant?

In Colossians 1:15, Paul clearly makes a distinction between:

Jesus Christ, who is the image of God,
and
the invisible God Himself.

Paul does not say Jesus is the invisible God.

Paul says Jesus is the image of the invisible God.

That is a very important difference.

Colossians 1:15

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.”

Let us begin with the first part of the verse:

“He is the image of the invisible God.”

The Greek word translated image is εἰκών — eikōn.

This word means an image, likeness, representation, copy, or visible expression of someone or something.

So Paul is saying that Jesus is the image, likeness, and visible representation of His God and Father.

But please notice what Paul does not say.

Paul does not say:

“Jesus is the invisible God.”

If Jesus were the invisible God Himself, surely Paul could have said so plainly.

Instead, Paul says Jesus is the image of the invisible God.

An image is not the original.

An image represents the original.

This is simple and important.

Who Is the Invisible God?

Jesus said:

“God is Spirit.”
John 4:24

Paul also wrote:

“Who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see.”
1 Timothy 6:16

Notice carefully:

“No one has ever seen or can see.”

Paul also wrote:

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
1 Timothy 1:17

So we have three clear facts:

1. God is invisible.

2. No man has ever seen God or can see God.

3. The Father is called the only God.

Jesus Himself confirmed this when He said:

“How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?”
John 5:44

Therefore, when Paul says Jesus is the image of the invisible God, he is not saying Jesus is the invisible God Himself.

He is saying Jesus perfectly reveals and represents the invisible God.

Jesus Was Seen Because Jesus Was a Man

The invisible God cannot be seen.

But Jesus was seen by many.

People saw Him.

People touched Him.

People heard Him.

People watched Him suffer and die.

Why?

Because Jesus was a real man.

As Scripture says:

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
1 Timothy 2:5

This is why Jesus could be the visible image of the invisible God.

He revealed the Father perfectly.

Hebrews 1:3 says:

“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature.”

And 2 Corinthians 4:4 says:

“Christ, who is the image of God.”

Again, Jesus is called the image of God.

He is not called the invisible God Himself.

Image Does Not Mean Original

This is a simple fact many overlook.

Being the image of someone does not make you the same person as the one you are the image of.

Genesis 1:26 says:

“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.”

Man was made in the image of God.

But man is not God.

So when Paul says Jesus is the image of God, this does not mean Jesus is God Himself.

It means Jesus is the perfect human image, reflection, and representation of His Father.

Paul’s Own Teaching

Paul did not teach that there are two Gods.

Paul wrote:

“Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 8:6

Paul identifies the one God as the Father.

This agrees perfectly with Jesus’ own words:

“This is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
John 17:3

Jesus did not call Himself the only true God.

Jesus called His Father the only true God.

So if Colossians 1:15 is used to teach that Jesus is the same God as the Father, then that interpretation contradicts Jesus and Paul.

The Firstborn of All Creation

Now let us look at the second part of Colossians 1:15:

“The firstborn of all creation.”

Many Christians are told this means Jesus was alive before the world began and was the firstborn before all created things.

But is that what Paul meant?

Paul explains his own meaning just a few verses later:

“He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent.”
Colossians 1:18

This is the key.

Paul connects Jesus being firstborn with His resurrection from the dead.

Jesus is the firstborn from the dead.

He is the first to receive immortal resurrection life.

He is the beginning of God’s new creation.

He is first in rank, honour, authority, and preeminence.

Other Scriptures Confirm This

Paul also wrote:

“But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”
1 Corinthians 15:20

And again:

“Christ the firstfruits, then at His coming those who belong to Christ.”
1 Corinthians 15:23

Romans 8:29 says:

“That He might be the firstborn among many brothers.”

Acts 26:23 says:

“That the Christ must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, He would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.”

Revelation 1:5 says:

“Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead.”

So the Bible itself explains what firstborn means.

Jesus is firstborn because He is the firstborn from the dead.

He is the beginning of the new creation.

He is the first glorified man.

He is the one God has exalted above all others.

Firstborn Means Preeminence

The word firstborn does not always mean the first person born in time.

It can also mean first in rank, honour, inheritance, authority, and importance.

Jesus is firstborn because God has made Him supreme over all things in the new creation.

He has preeminence.

He has superiority.

He has greatness.

He has excellence.

He has distinction.

He has prominence.

He has authority.

He has been exalted by God.

But if Jesus were God Himself, He would not need to be given authority.

Yet Jesus said:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”
Matthew 28:18

If authority was given to Jesus, then the one who gave Him that authority is greater than Him.

That is why Paul wrote:

“The head of Christ is God.”
1 Corinthians 11:3

God Created Alone

If Jesus pre-existed and created the Genesis creation, then we must ask a serious question:

Why does God repeatedly say He created alone?

Isaiah 44:24 says:

“I am Yahweh, who makes all things; who alone stretches out the heavens; who spreads out the earth by myself.”

This is very clear.

God says He created:

alone
and
by Himself.

Genesis 1:1 says:

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Genesis 1:27 says:

“So God created man in His own image.”

Matthew 19:4 says:

“Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female?”

Jesus Himself says the Creator made them male and female.

Jesus does not say, “I created them.”

Jesus does not say, “We created them.”

Jesus points back to God as the Creator.

No Claim of Joint Creation

There is no verse where Yahweh the Father says His Son was with Him creating the Genesis creation.

There is no verse where Jesus says He was alive with the Father before the world began creating all things.

Instead, Scripture says God had His Son in His plan and foreknowledge before the foundation of the world.

1 Peter 1:20 says:

“He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you.”

Notice the word:

Foreknown.

It does not say Jesus was already living with God before the foundation of the world.

It says He was foreknown.

Acts 2:23 says Jesus was delivered up according to:

“The determined plan and foreknowledge of God.”

This shows that Jesus was always central in God’s great plan.

God created with His Son in mind.

God’s purpose was always to bring salvation, authority, and new creation through His beloved Son.

Why This Matters

If we say Jesus is the invisible God, then we contradict Paul, who said Jesus is the image of the invisible God.

If we say Jesus is the Creator alongside God, then we contradict Isaiah 44:24, where Yahweh says He created alone and by Himself.

If we say Jesus is God Himself, then we create confusion between the one God and the Son of God.

This can lead people away from the true man Christ Jesus and into belief in a pre-human being, a spirit being, an angelic being, or a false Christ who is not the real Son of God revealed in Scripture.

The Bible teaches:

There is one God, the Father.
There is one Lord, Jesus Christ.
There is one mediator, the man Christ Jesus.

Conclusion

Colossians 1:15 does not teach that Jesus is the invisible God.

It teaches that Jesus is the image of the invisible God.

Colossians 1:15 does not prove Jesus created the Genesis creation.

It points to Jesus as the firstborn from the dead, the beginning of God’s new creation, and the one God has exalted above all.

Jesus is the perfect image of His Father.

Jesus is the true Son of God.

Jesus is the Christ.

Jesus is the firstborn from the dead.

Jesus is the man whom God has appointed, raised, glorified, and placed over all things.

Please may I share my research on Colossians 1-15.  
If you haven’t already made up your mind to what you already believe, I pray at least my research will encourage you to open your mind and heart and consider the following Biblical facts.

There are many different views and beliefs to what Paul meant in Colossians 1-15 ,16, and 17, by many different faiths.  

Lets kick off with Colossians 1-15.  

English Standard Version He is the (image) of the invisible God,   

Jesus: is the (image) of the invisible God,   
This is not at all complicated, as the Greek word for (εἰκὼν image) simply means likenesses, copy, duplicate, exactly like something else, (ONE) of two or more identical things.  

So Jesus is the (εἰκὼν image), likenesses, copy, duplicate, exactly, identically, like his Father GOD.  

He is the image of the (invisible God),   

We already see and notice how Paul DOES NOT SAY: Jesus IS THE INVISIBLE GOD. Which is what we would expect Paul to say, IF JESUS WERE GOD.

(invisible God).  

GOD is Spirit said Jesus John 4:24, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom (no one has ever seen or can see). To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen. 1 Timothy 6:16.  

Note: (no one has ever seen or can see).   

Also Note what we also read in 1 Timothy 1:17 
To the King of the ages, immortal, (invisible), the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.  

So we read in all three scriptures Colossians 1:15, 1 Timothy 6:16 and 1 Timothy 1:17 that GOD the Father is the (invisible God), which is why (no one has ever seen or can see).  

We clearly read how GOD the Father is the only invisible God.

This is confirmed by Jesus in John 5:44 How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

 And we know that MAN is not invisible, which is why millions could see Jesus, because He was a MAN. 

As Jesus is the (εἰκὼν image) of His GOD, and was a MAN, This proves He is the visible, and physical form of His Father GOD. 

Just as we are told in Hebrews 1:3, He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.   

In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4.   

Facts to consider: 
Here are some simple facts for those who believe and teach Jesus is GOD.  

Being the (image) of something or being the (image) of someone, means that or they are not the same thing or being they are the (image) of.  

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Genesis 1:26. 

As Man was also made in the image of GOD, we humans are not GOD.  

Conclusion:

The first part of Paul’s verse saying: He is the (image) of the invisible God, in Colossians 1:15 is an undeniable, indisputable fact, proving Jesus Christ is NOT the same GOD He was born from, but as GOD and His Son have always declared Jesus is the literal Son of His one true GOD, Matthew 3:17, Luke 3:22, Matthew 17:5, John 10:36, John 17:3.

As Jesus is the  exact (εἰκὼν image), imprint, nature, likenesses, copy, duplicate,  the visible, and physical form, Philippians 2:6, exactly, identically, just like his Father GOD, these simple Biblical facts prove Colossians 1-15 proves Jesus is NOT that same GOD He is the exact (εἰκὼν image) of.  

We continue with Colossians 1-15 saying: the firstborn of all creation.  

What did Paul mean: the firstborn of all creation?  

The simple answer is in the verses below:  

And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. Colossians 1:18   

But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 15-20:  

But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:23  

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:29   

that the Christ must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.” Acts 26:23.  

and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood. Revelation 1:5

Facts to consider: 
Colossians 1-15 saying: the firstborn of all creation. 

Here are some simple facts for those who believe and teach Colossians 1-15 means Jesus is the first ever born Son of GOD.

There are NO sayings, or words or verses by GOD “Yahweh’’ the Father saying or teaching His Son Jesus was WITH GOD before all creation, as we would expect GOD to say if Jesus pre-existed His flesh, but instead GOD always says He was on His own, by myself, just as we read in just a few verses of many like Psalm 72:18, Psalm 86:10.
Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself, Isaiah 44:24  

There are NO sayings, or words or verses by Jesus saying He was ALIVE, and WITH His Father GOD “Yahweh’’ before the creation of the world, but instead that GOD created all things with His Begotten SON Jesus in MIND, as the most important MAN to be born in His GREAT PLAN (because in him were all things created Colossians 1:16), 

Because: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. 

He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 1 Peter 1:20.  

Notice how we read Jesus was foreknown, and instead we do not read Jesus was alive and living WITH GOD before the foundation of the world.

The Greek word for (προγινώσκω foreknown) simply means to know beforehand, just as we read Jesus was revealed in the countless Bible Prophesies, as the most important MAN and person to be born in GOD Almighty’s great PLAN.

If you have not already made up your mind concerning this passage, I sincerely ask that you consider the following biblical evidence with an open mind and an open heart.

There are many different interpretations of Colossians 1:15–17 among Christians. Therefore, let us begin by carefully examining the first statement Paul makes.

Colossians 1:15

English Standard Version

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation."

Paul begins by declaring:

"He is the image of the invisible God."

This opening statement is remarkably straightforward.

The Greek word translated "image" is εἰκών (eikōn). It carries the meaning of an image, likeness, representation, or visible manifestation of another. An image reflects and reveals the one it represents.

Paul therefore identifies Jesus as the perfect image and visible representation of His God and Father.

Notice carefully what Paul does not say.

He does not write:

"He is the invisible God."

Instead, he deliberately distinguishes between:

• the invisible God, and

• the One who is His image.

This distinction is extremely important.

The Invisible God

The Bible consistently teaches that God the Father is invisible.

Jesus Himself said:

"God is Spirit." (John 4:24)

Paul likewise writes:

"...who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen nor can see." (1 Timothy 6:16)

Notice Paul's words carefully:

"No one has ever seen nor can see."

Earlier in the same letter he writes:

"Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen." (1 Timothy 1:17)

These passages agree perfectly with Colossians 1:15.

They identify the Father as:

• immortal,

• invisible,

• the only God,

• and the One whom no human being has ever seen or can see.

Jesus Himself also declared:

"How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?" (John 5:44)

The Father, therefore, is repeatedly identified throughout Scripture as the only God and the invisible God.

Jesus Was Visible

Unlike His Father, Jesus was plainly visible.

Thousands of people saw Him.

They heard Him teach.

They watched Him perform miracles.

They touched Him.

They crucified Him.

Jesus was a real human being.

This perfectly agrees with Paul's statement that Christ is the image of the invisible God.

The invisible Father was revealed through His visible Son.

This same truth is expressed elsewhere.

Hebrews declares:

"He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature." (Hebrews 1:3)

Likewise Paul writes:

"...the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." (2 Corinthians 4:4)

Each passage teaches the same principle.

Jesus perfectly reveals His Father because He bears His Father's image.

Facts to Consider

Those who believe Jesus is the One True God should carefully consider what Paul actually says.

An image is not the same person as the one whose image it is.

Rather, an image represents another.

Scripture gives another example.

Genesis records:

"Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.'" (Genesis 1:26)

Human beings were also created in God's image.

Yet no Christian would conclude that mankind is therefore God Himself.

Being made in God's image does not make us God.

Likewise, Christ being the image of God does not automatically identify Him as the same person as the invisible God whose image He bears.

Instead, Paul distinguishes between the two.

Conclusion

The opening words of Colossians 1:15 present a straightforward distinction.

Paul does not identify Jesus as the invisible God.

Instead, he identifies Jesus as the image of the invisible God.

Throughout Scripture, the Father alone is repeatedly described as:

• the invisible God,

• the only God,

• the One whom no one has seen or can see.

Jesus, however, is consistently presented as the Father's Son, perfectly revealing His Father's character, glory, and nature.

This harmonises with numerous passages, including Matthew 3:17, Matthew 17:5, Luke 3:22, John 10:36, and John 17:3, where both the Father and Jesus distinguish between the One True God and His Son.

As Hebrews 1:3 explains, Jesus is "the exact imprint" of His Father's nature, while 2 Corinthians 4:4 describes Him as "the image of God."

Taken together, these passages show that Christ perfectly reveals the invisible God without being described by Paul as the invisible God Himself.

The Firstborn of All Creation

Paul continues:

"the firstborn of all creation."

What did Paul mean by this expression?

The answer is found by allowing Scripture to interpret Scripture.

Paul himself immediately explains:

"He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might have the pre-eminence." (Colossians 1:18)

Likewise he writes:

"But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep." (1 Corinthians 15:20)

Again:

"But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at His coming those who belong to Christ." (1 Corinthians 15:23)

Romans also says:

"...that He might be the firstborn among many brothers." (Romans 8:29)

Paul's understanding is consistent with Acts:

"...that the Christ must suffer and that by being the first to rise from the dead He would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles." (Acts 26:23)

John likewise writes:

"...Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead..." (Revelation 1:5)

These passages consistently connect Christ's firstborn status with His resurrection and His pre-eminence among God's redeemed people.

Facts to Consider

Many believe that "the firstborn of all creation" means Jesus literally existed as the first person created before the universe.

However, it is worth considering several important biblical facts.

Nowhere does God the Father explicitly state that His Son was personally alive with Him before the creation of the world.

Instead, the Father repeatedly declares that He alone created all things.

For example:

"I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by Myself." (Isaiah 44:24)

Similar declarations appear throughout the Old Testament (see Psalm 72:18 and Psalm 86:10).

Likewise, nowhere does Jesus plainly state, "I lived with My Father before creation."

Instead, Scripture repeatedly teaches that Christ was foreknown before His earthly manifestation.

Peter writes:

"He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in these last times for your sake." (1 Peter 1:20)

Notice Peter's wording carefully.

He does not say Christ was already living in heaven before the foundation of the world.

He says Christ was foreknown.

The Greek word προγινώσκω (proginōskō) means "to know beforehand."

This agrees with the many Old Testament prophecies in which God revealed beforehand His coming Messiah.

Christ stood at the very centre of God's eternal purpose long before His birth because God's entire plan of salvation was established with His Son as its fulfilment.

This naturally prepares us for Paul's explanation in the following verses concerning all things being created "through Him" and "for Him," which we will examine in the next chapter.

Introduction

Colossians 1:16 is one of the most debated verses in the New Testament.

Many Christians believe Paul is teaching that Jesus personally created the Genesis creation—that He created the heavens, the earth, the planets, the stars, and every living thing.

But is this really what Paul meant?

Or is Paul speaking about something entirely different?

I believe the evidence points in another direction.

When Colossians 1:16 is read alongside the surrounding context and compared with the rest of Scripture, Paul is not describing the original creation of Genesis, but God's new creation and Christ's authority over all things following His resurrection.

Let us examine the evidence.

Colossians 1:16

Berean Literal Bible

"Because in Him were created all things in the heavens and upon the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things have been created through Him and for Him."

Most Christians understand the phrase "all things" to refer to everything created in Genesis:

• the heavens

• the earth

• the stars

• the planets

• mankind

• animals

• every created thing

However, does Paul actually say this?

God Alone Created the Genesis Creation

Before examining Colossians 1:16, we should first establish what the rest of Scripture repeatedly teaches.

The Bible consistently declares that Yahweh alone created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis opens with these words:

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
—Genesis 1:1

King Hezekiah prayed:

"Yahweh, the God of Israel... You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth."
—2 Kings 19:15

Isaiah records Yahweh's own words:

"I am Yahweh, who makes all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by Myself."
—Isaiah 44:24

Notice the repeated emphasis.

• I

• alone

• by Myself

The language is singular throughout.

Yahweh repeatedly declares that He alone created the Genesis creation.

Does Colossians Contradict Isaiah?

If Colossians 1:16 teaches that Jesus created the Genesis universe, or that God created the Genesis universe through Jesus, then we must ask an important question.

Would this not appear to conflict with the many passages where Yahweh repeatedly says He alone created the heavens and the earth?

Rather than assuming Paul is contradicting Isaiah, it is worth asking whether Paul is speaking about something different.

God's Eternal Plan Through Christ

Scripture teaches that Christ was central to God's eternal purpose before the foundation of the world.

Peter writes:

"He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was revealed in these last times for your sake."
—1 Peter 1:20

Notice carefully what Peter says.

He says Christ was foreknown.

He does not say Christ was already living alongside God before creation.

The Greek word προγινώσκω (proginōskō) simply means to know beforehand or to foreknow.

Acts 2:23 teaches the same truth.

Jesus was delivered according to:

"the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God."

God's plan centred on His Son long before Jesus was born.

What Does Paul Actually Describe?

Now let us carefully examine Colossians 1:16.

Notice something interesting.

Paul never mentions:

• planets

• stars

• oceans

• mountains

• animals

• mankind

• light

• trees

• fish

• birds

In fact, Paul never lists anything described in Genesis chapter one.

Instead, Paul writes:

"Whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities."

This immediately shifts our attention away from material creation and toward positions of government, rule and authority.

Notice Paul's Language

Paul does not say:

"The heavens were created."

Instead he says:

"Things in the heavens."

Neither does Paul say:

"The earth was created."

Instead he says:

"Things upon the earth."

The heavens and the earth already exist in Paul's description.

His concern is not their original creation.

His concern is what exists within them.

Thrones, Dominions, Rulers and Authorities

Paul explains exactly what he means.

He speaks about:

• thrones

• dominions

• rulers

• authorities

These are positions of authority.

The Greek words themselves describe kingdoms, governments, rule, delegated authority and positions of power.

Paul is describing the ordering of authority under Christ.

Matthew 28 Explains Colossians 1

Following His resurrection Jesus declared:

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me."
—Matthew 28:18

Notice carefully.

Jesus does not say He always possessed this authority.

He says:

"has been given to Me."

This perfectly matches Paul's teaching.

God exalted Christ and placed all authority beneath Him.

Paul Explains Himself Again

Paul says exactly the same thing in Ephesians.

"To bring together all things in Christ—the things in heaven and the things on earth."
—Ephesians 1:10

Later Paul writes:

"God raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand... far above every rule and authority and power and dominion."
—Ephesians 1:20–22

Notice the repeated language.

Rule.

Authority.

Power.

Dominion.

These are the very same expressions Paul uses in Colossians.

The context is Christ's exaltation—not Genesis creation.

The New Creation

Throughout Paul's letters there is a consistent emphasis on God's new creation in Christ.

Jesus is:

• Head of the Church.

• Firstborn from the dead.

• Exalted above every authority.

• Lord of God's coming Kingdom.

Paul's focus is God's new order established through the risen Christ.

This harmonises perfectly with Colossians 1:13, where Paul has already been speaking about:

"The kingdom of His beloved Son."

The immediate context is God's Kingdom—not Genesis.

The Biblical Harmony

When Colossians 1:16 is understood in this way, Scripture remains perfectly harmonious.

Genesis teaches:

Yahweh alone created the heavens and the earth.

Isaiah teaches:

Yahweh stretched out the heavens alone.

Jesus teaches:

All authority was given to Him after His resurrection.

Paul teaches:

God exalted Christ above every throne, ruler, dominion and authority.

These passages complement one another rather than contradict each other.

Conclusion

In my understanding, Colossians 1:16 is not describing the original creation recorded in Genesis.

Rather, Paul is describing God's work through His risen Son—the One whom God has exalted above every throne, dominion, ruler and authority in heaven and on earth.

The emphasis is not on the creation of the physical universe, but on Christ's supreme position within God's redemptive plan and Kingdom.

Throughout Scripture, Yahweh consistently declares that He alone created the heavens and the earth (Isaiah 44:24; 2 Kings 19:15; Genesis 1:1).

Paul does not overturn that teaching.

Instead, he reveals how all authority, rule, and dominion now find their place in Christ, through Christ, and for Christ, according to God's eternal purpose.

In the next chapter, we will examine the Greek expressions "in Him," "through Him," and "for Him," and consider whether Paul is describing Christ as the Creator of Genesis or as the appointed Lord and mediator through whom God is accomplishing His new creation.

The TRUE Meaning and Misunderstanding of Colossians 1:16 and 1:17.

We continue from Colossians 1:15 to Colossians 1:16, and 1:17.

Colossians 1:16:  

For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.  

Most of Christianity believe Paul is teaching here that the whole of the Genesis creation was created by or through Jesus. 

I was one who was deceived by believing this, until my countless debates with Unitarians and Mr Buzzard for over 2 years helped open my heart, mind and eyes, to then force me to go back to the pages of the bible and redo my research through new glasses, to then come to a new understanding and surprising unknown fact proving to be a new revelation for me, that was disclosed to Unitarians, which I now share with many today.  

The Simple Biblical facts:  

The simple understanding is the fact that if the whole world was created by GOD with His Son alive WITH Him and next to him and doing the creating through Him, then WHY was this NOT ever taught or said or mentioned by GOD the Father Himself?  

Psalm 33:6 would have simply said: By Yahweh’s (SON), the heavens were made; all their army by the breath of his (SONS) mouth. Psalm 33:6.

And as GOD the father only ever declares He is the creator of all things ALONE, then if Jesus was alive and with GOD doing the creating, then we would have countless contradictions against what GOD said that He is the creator of all things ALONE.

If there are contradictions against what GOD said, then that should raise a RED flag.

However what we find is that Jesus or the (Son) is not mentioned by GOD the Father, but instead we read: By Yahweh’s (word), the heavens were made. and on close examination we find the (word) is simply GODS spoken word from His mouth, His speech, command and authority, which is seen in the end part of the verse: by the (breath of his mouth)  Psalm 33:6.
  
And should instead say by the (SON) Psalm 33:6, If GOD created all things THROUGH His Son Jesus.

We also find in countless scriptures when referring to (GOD Yahweh's) Name, (He) always has attached the singular verbs as:
 (I), He, Me, Him, by myself,
proving (HE) is a SINGLE PERSON.
Just as we read in Genesis 1:27:
God created man in (His) own image, in the image of God (He) created him; male and female (He) created them. Genesis 1:27.

We clearly see how GOD ALONE does the creating with no one with him or next to Him, proving He is ONE GOD ALONE, on His own.

And again Jesus is never, ever mentioned by GOD the Father to be WITH Him alive, and that GOD is working through His Son CREATING the whole world, just as we read GOD say He created all things (by my self in Isaiah 44:24: Thus says Yahweh, your Redeemer, and he who formed you from the womb: “I am Yahweh, who makes all things; who alone stretches out the heavens; who spreads out the earth by myself;  

Notice how we even read GOD the Fathers name (Yahweh) is in the Hebrew translations, that has been removed from most of the modern Trinitarian translations, which is truly shocking, because GOD the Fathers name (Yahweh) IDENTIFIES GOD the Father as GOD ALONE,  as ONE BEING, and NOT THREE BEINGS.  

So these simple Biblical facts prove the understanding by MOST within the Christian population today is wrong and false and is another GREAT and terrible deception MOST have been deceived into believing, that Jesus was WITH GOD before all creation, therefore deceiving MOST to wrongly believing that Jesus pre-existed His flesh, when instead the Biblical fact prove GOD is GOD ALONE, on His own doing the creating.

The incorrect translation (by).  

The correct translation is: (in Him) all things were created,  

In the Greek text of Colossians 1:16 we have (ἐν in) Him and not by Him.   

And the end says (δι’through) Him and not by Him.  

What did Paul mean in the first part of Colossians 1:16: For in Him all things were created,  

Paul is saying GOD the Father has created ALL things with Jesus in mind, purpose and plan from the foundations of the world Revelation 13-8, 1 Peter 1-20, Galatians 4-4.    

We clearly see how Trinitarians have changed the correct word from (ἐν in) Him, to by Him, to deceive people into believing Jesus is GOD, which is why Trinitarians so often use Colossians 1:16 to make us believe Jesus is GOD, because GOD The father always says he alone is the creator, so by the false Trinitarian translations saying (by him) Jesus, people are deceived into believing Jesus is the same one true GOD, as GOD is the only creator.    

And as most Trinitarians do not look into the Greek translations, but simply use false modern Trinitarian translations, they remain deceived to what the scriptures are truly saying and meaning.

But what did Paul mean in the end of Colossians 1-16 (πάντα all things) were created through him and for him.  

In Hebrews 1:2, we have the answer to what Paul meant by saying (πάντων all things) were created through him and for him.  

Hebrews 1-2:  Berean Literal Bible: in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of (πάντα all things) and through whom He made the ages. 

Notice the words again (πάντα all things), meaning: (in these last days) has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of (πάντα all things), and through whom He made the ages. 

Meaning (πάντα all things), have been (RE CREATED) (in these last days Hebrews 1-2) in Jesus, in the PRESENT AGE, NEW AGE, NEW KINGDOM TO COME IN JESUS, just as we read in three verses back in Colossians 1-13- He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son. The PRESENT AGE, NEW AGE, NEW KINGDOM TO COME IN JESUS, Hebrews 1:2, 

Because: And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Matthew 28:18. 

But what did Jesus mean: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Matthew 28:18?  

The simple answer is back in Colossians 1:16: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities.  

Notice how the wording of Paul (in heaven and on earth), Colossians 1:16? Is identical to the wording of Jesus (in heaven and on earth) Matthew 28:18?  

So by this statement from Jesus  (in heaven and on earth) Matthew 28:18, we know Jesus is referring to the NEW CREATION, because He told us this after His death and resurrection when He fully accomplished the will of his father, where GOD gave Him all authority in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. 

All things were created through Him and for Him.Colossians 1:16, Matthew 28:18.  

So this must conclude that Paul is referring to what Jesus said in Matthew 28:18.

Colossians 1-17: He is before (all things),   

Most of Christianity have again become very confused and deceived by false teachers teaching what Paul is saying and meaning here, and simply think and believe Paul was saying Jesus was ALIVE WITH GOD before ALL CREATION, because of Paul saying: He is before (all things), Colossians 1-17.  

However the truth to what Paul means in verse 1:17 is in the END of the very next verse of Colossians 1:18:

preeminence in all things,πρωτεύων (prōteuōn) means to have the first place. Phonetic Spelling: (prote-yoo'-o)
Definition: to have the first place

Usage: I have preeminence, am chief, am first.

Paul is referring to: He is before (all things), in precedence. Jesus is considered as first priority in importance, order and rank, which is confirmed by John the Baptist in John 1:15, John 1:30. 

Which is what Jesus meant in John 8:58, before Abraham was I am, meaning (I am the chosen one), the Messiah, the promised deliverer of Israel, which is why Jesus is: before (all things), first priority in importance, in GODS Plan for mans redemption: 
He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 1 Peter 1:20.  

1 John 4:9: In this the love of God has been revealed among us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. 

Notice how we read in Acts 2:23 that Jesus is the determinate plan and foreknowledge of God, NOT PREEXISTING with GOD but in Gods plan and foreknowledge:

22 Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man having been set forth by God to you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by Him in your the midst, as you yourselves know, 23 Him delivered up by the determinate plan and foreknowledge of God, you put to death, having crucified Him by lawless hands, 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the agony of death, inasmuch as it was not possible for Him to be held by it.

Sadly the rebellious Jews often did not believe Jesus, and therefore did not understand Jesus, much like most  Christians today.

In the first part of this video and article we examined Colossians 1:15.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

What did we discover?

We clearly saw, as Paul said Jesus is: the image of the invisible God, which is simple to understand, Jesus cant be the SAME GOD, if He is the image of that invisible GOD, proving Jesus is NOT that same GOD, He is the Image of.

We also see how Paul did NOT say Jesus is: the invisible God, but defines and explains the clear difference between Jesus as being the image of His invisible God.

We also see how Paul clearly defined the difference between the person who is GOD and the person who is Jesus by telling us the person who is GOD is invisible.

We also saw that Jesus being: the firstborn over all creation, does NOT mean Jesus was the FIRST PERSON to exist and pre existed His flesh, as many believe.

But we saw what Paul meant was in the next coming verse of Colossians 1:18: who is the beginning, firstborn out from the dead.

As we also see in 1 Corinthians 15-20: the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 

1 Corinthians 15:23: Christ the first fruits.

Acts 26:23: the first to rise from the dead. 

Revelation 1:5 the firstborn of the dead.

So as we have clearly seen, as Jesus is: the firstborn of the dead Revelation 1:5, this makes Jesus: the firstborn over all creation Corinthians 1:15, which all took place AFTER Jesus death and Resurrection, this then simply proves Paul is also referring to AFTER Jesus death and Resurrection, as: the firstborn over all creation Corinthians 1:15, 
and NOT the first person to ever exist.

because in Him were created all things in the heavens and upon the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or lordships or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and unto Him.

As we know MOST of Christianity, believe Paul was teaching here the WHOLE of Genesis creation was created BY or through Jesus.

However by what Paul says: all things in the heavens and upon the earth, is referring to what Jesus said in Matthew 28:18: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Paul is clearly referring to all the authority given by GOD to Jesus in heaven and on earth to establish the NEW CREATION.

Just as Paul in a few verses back was referring to the NEW kingdom of Christ in Colossians 1:13 saying, who has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son.

Just as we read in Ephesians 1:20-21

which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, above every principality and authority and power and dominion, and every name being named, not only in this age, but also in the one coming.

Notice also in 1 Peter 3:22 how we read AFTER Jesus resurrection:

And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 

22: who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers having been subjected to Him.

So we read AFTER Jesus death, resurrection, and victory, Jesus was given: All authority in heaven and on earth Matthew 28:18.

Above every principality and authority and power and dominion Ephesians 1:21.

We clearly see what Paul tells us in Colossians 1:16. about the thrones or lordships or rulers or authorities, which is IDENTICAL with what we are told about Jesus AFTER His Death and resurrection, in Matthew 28:18, Ephesians 1:21 and 1 Peter 3:22 saying: All authority in heaven and on earth, above every principality and authority and power and dominion, where He went into heaven, where angels and authorities and powers having been subjected to Him.

Is Jesus in Genesis?

There is also NO mention in Genesis about GOD creating the world BY or through Jesus, but we instead read in Genesis 1:27 how the SINGLE person of GOD the Father ALONE who created man in His Image.

So God created man in (His) own image; in the image of God (He) created him; male and female (He) created them.

Notice there is NO mention of (plural) persons, but GOD with (singular) verbs, (His), (HE).

Lets now turn to the page of Job 38:4 God Challenges Job:

Look at what we read?

4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?

My question here is, if Jesus was with GOD creating the whole world as MOST believe Paul is saying in Colossians 1:16,

WHERE WAS JESUS, when GOD laid the foundations of the earth?

As we have seen, GOD alone tells Job 38:4 (I) laid the foundations of the earth?

The words by GOD clearly represents a (singular) being for GOD the Father alone.

If it is true, what MOST say and believe that Paul was teaching in Colossians 1:16 the whole of the Genesis creation was created by or through Jesus, then surely GOD the Father would have told us Jesus was ALIVE and WITH Him, at and before creation.

Just as GOD the Farther has made it very clear that He is the GOD and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ:

Matthew 3:17, Matthew 17:5, “This is my beloved Son, 

The Biblical FACTS prove there is NOT a single word by GOD or Jesus saying we are the SAME GOD, or are THREE PERSONS, as WRONGLY taught by the TRINITY faith.

Just as there is NOT a single word by GOD or Jesus saying the Father is the SON, as WRONGLY taught by the Oneness Pentecostal faith.

So lets have a look at just a few verses referring to the creation of the world, and see if there is any mention of Jesus.

Isaiah 45:18,

For thus says Yahweh who created the heavens, the God who formed the earth and made it, who established it and didn’t create it a waste, who formed it to be inhabited: “I am Yahweh; and there is no other.

So we just saw how Isaiah 45:18 represents a (singular) being for GOD the Father alone, doing the creating, and no mention of Jesus.

Isaiah 48:13:

World English Bible

Yes, (my) hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and (my) right hand has spread out the heavens: when (I) call to them, they stand up together.

Again we also read the same in Isaiah 48:13 that it is a (singular) being for GOD the Father alone doing the creating:

Isaiah 37:16.

World English Bible

"Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, who is enthroned among the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

We read again in Isaiah 37:16  a (singular) being for GOD the Father alone, hence: you are the God, even you alone, so WHERE is Jesus and the separate Holy Spirit, in the three PERSONS of the TRINITY?

Isaiah 42:5

World English Bible

Thus says God Yahweh, (he) who created the heavens and stretched them out, (he) who spread out the earth and that which comes out of it, (he) who gives breath to its people and spirit to those who walk in it. 

We read again in Isaiah 42:5 a (singular) being for God Yahweh, the Father alone (he) who created the heavens and stretched them out,

Jeremiah 27:5

(I) have made the earth, the men and the animals that are on the surface of the earth, by (my) great power and by my outstretched arm; and (I) give it to whom it seems right to me.

And yet again we read a (singular) being for God Yahweh, the Father alone saying: (I) have made the earth, by (my) great power and by (my) outstretched arm; and (I) give it to whom it seems right to me.

As we have clearly seen, there is NOT a single word or mention by God Yahweh, the Father saying there is a second person Jesus or the third person of the Holy Spirit from the THREE persons of the TRINITY.

There are COUNTLESS verses just like the ones above that ALL tell us the IDENTICAL SAME truth, that God Yahweh is the Father of ALL creation ALONE, doing the creating on His own.

And there is NOT a single verse, or word ANYWHERE in the WHOLE BIBLE, that tells us Jesus was ALIVE WITH GOD, or that there was another TWO SEPARATE BEINGS WITH GOD, and BESIDE GOD doing the creating, as we would expect to see and read if Colossians 1:16 was about Jesus being involved in the Genesis creation.

These very simple facts are what finally convinced me that the Unitarian faith were correct, that Jesus did NOT pre exist His flesh, otherwise GOD would have simply said WE MADE, or the world was made by US, or I created all things WITH, or BY, or THROUGH my Son Jesus and simply would have included and mentioned BOTH, the second person Jesus or the third person of the Holy Spirit from the THREE persons of the TRINITY, as Trinitarians believe the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are separate beings and all EQUAL.

 My Conclusion of Colossians 1:17.

We now come to the final verse by Paul in Colossians 1:17, that MOST have again become very confused by thinking Jesus was ALIVE BEFORE ALL CREATION, saying: And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

We clearly see how Paul was NOT referring to Jesus being ALIVE and WITH GOD BEFORE ALL CREATION, simply by going to the very NEXT verse where we see Paul now explains what he meant by saying: And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Lets turn to page Colossians 1:18.

Notice how Paul is referring to AFTER Jesus death and resurrection, and NOT BEFORE.

By the fact Paul tells us Jesus is: the beginning, firstborn out from the dead.

And then goes on to tells us: He might be holding preeminence in all things,

Notice them SAME words by Paul: in all things, Colossians 1:18.

As we read in Colossians 1:17: And He is before all things.

Notice the words: preeminence in all things.

The Greek word for (πρωτεύω preeminence) simply means: to have the first place Usage: I have preeminence, am chief, am first.

Which clearly adds up to why Paul said in Colossians 1:17: And He is before all things. 

I believe Paul is referring to: He is before (all things), as Jesus is considered as first priority in importance, order and rank, which is why Jesus said in John 8:58, before Abraham was I am, the chosen one), the Messiah, the promised deliverer of Israel, which is why Jesus is: before (all things), first priority in importance, in GODS Plan for mans redemption. The verses like John 1:1, John 1:3 John 1:10, John 17:5, John 8:58, and so on are used by people who believe Jesus is GOD, or by people who believe Jesus preexisted His Flesh, but on close examination, these verses are again ether FALSE Trinitarian translations, or taken out of context, or simply misunderstood by most. 

My research reveals if Jesus pre-existed His Flesh, then He was a Pre human, meaning He was NOT 100% human, CONTRADICTING what Jesus only ever taught that He was GODS Begotten Son, John 10:36 who was fully MAN, John 8:40, who did certainly become the second perfect Adam, but could NOT be the second perfect Adam if He was GOD, or an Angel, and pre-existed His Flesh.   

And therefore, a pre-existing Jesus, is NOT the second perfect Adam, and NOT the true MAN and the true Christ, but one of countless false Christ’s, just as Jesus said there would come many false Christ's'. Matthew 24:24.     

And the SHOCKING truth is that MOST have been deceived into believing Jesus is the word in John 1:1, meaning Jesus was pre-existing with GOD side by side making TWO GODS, and was PRE-HUMAN, when the word is simply GODS own spoken speech, authority, expressing His mind, plan and command, and is never a second person, until Jesus is BORN John 1:14.

As: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6. We MUST then go through the true Jesus Christ, to get to the ONE TRUE GOD.

But as MOST have been deceived into believing in one of countless false Christ’s they will not be able to get to the ONE TRUE GOD, and this is another way how I believe the enemy has deceived MOST:

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Revelation 12:9.

This explains another reason why Jesus said we MUST overcome, by overcoming the countless deceptions and black holes the enemy has created to deceive people from the truth:  

Berean Literal Bible The one overcoming, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall not go out anymore. And I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from My God, and My new name. Revelation 3:12   

The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. Revelation 3:21.  

If we believe in the true Jesus, we will (overcome) and endure:  if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us 2 Timothy 2:12. 

When we believe in a false Jesus, we DENY the true Christ. 

And this all explains why Jesus said in John 17:3:  And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 

Notice from Jesus own lips, we MUST know the only TRUE God, and the TRUE Jesus Christ, which is eternal life?  

What Jesus Christ do you know?   

For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.  See, I have told you beforehand. Matthew 24:24,25.

Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:16.

but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, THE SON OF GOD, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31.

There is NO TRINITY MYSTERY, 

but a simple understanding, uncomplicated, straightforward Biblical fact:

Jesus Christ is the Son of His one true GOD, Amen.

John 8:24 When we believe GOD is the SON we simply DENY the Father and the SON, and Jesus as the SON of GOD.
