Revelation 20:10 — Does the Devil Burn Forever?

Infographic examining Revelation 20:10 and whether the devil burns forever, comparing the Greek phrase "forever and ever," Revelation 14:11, the lake of fire, and the wider testimony of Scripture about the final judgment.

Revelation 20:10 — Does the Devil Burn Forever?

Quick Facts

Revelation 20:10 is one of the principal passages used to support the doctrine of eternal conscious torment.

Many English translations say the devil will be tormented "forever and ever."

However, the Greek text reads:

εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων

"unto the ages of the ages."

The Greek word aion primarily refers to an age, a period of time, or a cycle of time.

When Revelation 20:10 is read alongside Revelation 14:11, Isaiah 34:10, Hebrews 2:14, and the Bible's consistent teaching that the wages of sin is death, many conclude that the passage describes God's final judgment and complete destruction of evil rather than endless conscious torment.

What Is Revelation 20:10 About?

Revelation 20:10 describes the final judgment of Satan.

John writes:

"And the devil who deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and sulfur..."

This occurs after Satan's final rebellion and immediately before the final judgment of the dead.

The question is not whether Satan is judged.

The question is how that judgment should be understood.

Does Revelation teach that Satan will remain alive in conscious torment forever?

Or is John describing God's final and irreversible destruction of evil?

Looking at the Greek Text

Many English Bibles translate the final phrase:

"forever and ever."

However, the Greek text literally reads:

εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων

The Berean Literal Bible translates it:

"unto the ages of the ages."

This is the same Greek expression discussed in Revelation 14:11.

It does not literally say:

"forever and ever."

Instead, it uses the language of ages.

As we saw previously, Strong's Concordance defines aion as:

  • an age

  • a period of time

  • an era

  • a cycle of time

This encourages us to read the passage carefully within its biblical context rather than assuming it automatically means endless duration.

Hebrews 1:2 Uses the Same Word

The identical Greek word appears in Hebrews 1:2.

Many modern translations render aionas as:

  • worlds

  • universe

Yet the word itself literally means:

ages

This illustrates that translators sometimes choose interpretive renderings rather than translating the Greek word literally.

Recognising this helps us approach Revelation 20:10 with greater care.

Does the Bible Teach Satan Can Be Destroyed?

Many Christians assume Satan is immortal.

Yet Scripture repeatedly teaches that God alone possesses inherent immortality.

1 Timothy 6:15–16

Paul writes that God is:

"alone having immortality."

Immortality belongs inherently to God alone.

Every other created being exists because God gives life.

If God created angels, then God also has authority to judge them.

Christ Came to Destroy the Devil

One of the clearest passages appears in Hebrews.

Hebrews 2:14

"...that through death He might destroy the one holding the power of death, that is, the devil."

The Greek verb translated destroy is katargeō.

Strong's Concordance defines it as:

  • abolish

  • render powerless

  • bring to nothing

  • make ineffective

Whatever nuance one adopts, the emphasis is that Christ's victory results in the devil's ultimate defeat—not his eternal triumph.

Even Demons Expected Destruction

The demons themselves feared God's judgment.

Luke 4:34

"Have You come to destroy us?"

The Greek verb is:

apollumi

Strong's defines it as:

  • destroy

  • destroy utterly

  • perish

The demons clearly understood that divine judgment involved destruction.

Isaiah Explains Revelation

The language of Revelation closely parallels Isaiah.

Isaiah 34:10

"It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever."

The chapter is describing God's judgment upon Edom.

Yet Edom is not still burning today.

Instead, Isaiah concludes:

"From generation to generation it shall lie waste."

The smoke symbolises permanent judgment.

The land remains desolate.

This Old Testament background helps explain why many scholars understand Revelation 14:11 and Revelation 20:10 to employ the same prophetic imagery.

Day and Night

Revelation states that the devil is tormented:

"day and night."

Some understand this literally.

Others understand it as describing continual judgment during the period of God's final punishment.

Either way, Revelation itself later says:

Revelation 22:5

"There will be no night there."

The final state of God's new creation is one without night.

This passage is one reason some interpreters conclude that the expression "day and night" belongs to the imagery of judgment rather than describing an endless process extending throughout the eternal state.

The Lake of Fire

John himself defines the lake of fire.

Revelation 21:8

"This is the second death."

Notice carefully.

John does not call it:

"the second life."

Nor does he describe it as eternal life in suffering.

He calls it:

the second death.

This agrees with Paul's words:

Romans 6:23

"The wages of sin is death."

Jesus Also Spoke of Destruction

Jesus warned:

Matthew 10:28

"Fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna."

The emphasis again is destruction.

Likewise John the Baptist declared:

Luke 3:17

"He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

Unquenchable fire does not mean fire that burns forever.

It means fire that cannot be extinguished until it has completely consumed what it was sent to destroy.

The Example of Sodom and Gomorrah

Peter writes:

2 Peter 2:6

"...condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, reducing them to ashes, making them an example of what is coming upon the ungodly."

Sodom is not still burning today.

Its destruction was permanent.

Peter presents it as an example of God's future judgment.

The Bible's Consistent Message

Throughout Scripture the final fate of the wicked is described using words such as:

  • perish

  • destroy

  • consume

  • death

  • ashes

  • cut off

For example:

Psalm 37:20

"The wicked shall perish... they shall vanish like smoke."

Psalm 104:35

"Let sinners be consumed from the earth."

Revelation 11:18

"Destroy those who destroy the earth."

These passages consistently portray God's final judgment as complete and irreversible.

Conclusion

Revelation 20:10 is one of the Bible's most solemn descriptions of God's final judgment.

The Greek text literally speaks of "the ages of the ages," not the English phrase "forever and ever."

When read alongside Isaiah 34, Revelation 14, Hebrews 2, Matthew 10, Romans 6, and Revelation 21, many conclude that John is describing God's final victory over Satan and the permanent removal of all evil.

The Bible repeatedly teaches:

  • God alone possesses inherent immortality.

  • Christ came to destroy the works of the devil.

  • The lake of fire is the second death.

  • The wages of sin is death.

  • The wicked perish and are consumed like smoke.

The final hope of Scripture is not that evil will continue forever, but that God's kingdom will be completely free from sin, death, pain, and rebellion.

As Revelation promises:

"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, because the former things have passed away."
(Revelation 21:4)

Revelation 20:10 — Does the Devil Burn Forever?

Revelation 20:10 — Does the Devil Burn Forever?

Revelation 20:10 — Does the Devil Burn Forever?

Revelation 20:10 — Does the Devil Burn Forever?

Revelation 20:10 — Does the Devil Burn Forever?

The hope held out by Scripture is not the natural immortality of the soul, but the resurrection of the dead through Jesus Christ and the gift of immortality that God alone can bestow.

Revelation 14:11 — Does "Forever and Ever" Really Mean Forever?

Mark 9:44 — What Did Jesus Mean by "Their Worm Does Not Die"?

Part 4: Matthew 25:46 — What Did Jesus Mean by "Eternal Punishment"?

https://wwwrealdiscoveriesorg-simon.blogspot.com/2026/07/part-5-scriptures-proving-unsaved-will.html

Part 4. The true meaning of Matthew 25:46.

Matthew 25:46

And these will go away into (eternal) punishment; but the righteous into (eternal) life."

In this verse many Christians within the Trinity and the Oneness Pentecostal faiths have again become confused with understanding the simple truth of what Jesus is teaching here saying: And these will go away into eternal punishment.

Many believe because Jesus said the word (eternal), Jesus was teaching here the unsaved will go away into (eternal) fire which will burn the unsaved day and night for ever and ever, who will be roasted (eternally), never ending and never dying, as they teach.

As we see in Barnes' Notes on the Bible:

7. that the word used here is the same in the original as that used to express the eternal life of the righteous; if one can be proved to be limited in duration, the other can by the same arguments. "The proof that the righteous will be happy forever is precisely the same, and no other, than that the wicked will, be miserable forever."

In other words Trinitarian Barns confirms:  than that the wicked will, be miserable (BURNING) forever."

Matthew Poole's Commentary

So then it seems they shall rise as well as the other; though they live in the lands of the Grand Seignior, or the Great Mogul, they shall not (as some filthy dreamers have thought) have such a quiet sleep in the graves, but that the sound of the last trump shall awaken them. Nor are they out of the jurisdiction of him that shall be the Judge both of the quick and the dead. Nor shall they escape a judgment without the law, because they have sinned without the law: For the invisible things of God from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead, Romans 1:20. They shall perish (as they have sinned) without the law, Romans 2:12. They shall go into everlasting punishment, not a punishment for a time, as Origen thought.

But the righteous, those who shall be so adjudged, being made so in this life by the imputed righteousness of Christ, and accepted as such for their holy and sincere conversation, though in many things imperfect, shall go

into life eternal; which doth not signify a mere eternal existence, (for so the worst of men shall live eternally, or else they could not be capable of eternal punishment), but a happy and blessed estate, which shall never have an end: and thus eternal life always signifieth in Scripture, being opposed to eternal death, everlasting fire, the worm that never dieth, &c. Thus endeth Christ’s kingdom of grace; or rather, thus shall begin his kingdom of glory; all his enemies being put under his feet, and none remaining but this glorious King, and those who shall be his true subjects. Of which kingdom shall be no end.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

And these shall go away into everlasting punishment,.... Their excuses will not be regarded, their pleas will be of no avail, their pretensions to interest in Christ, and love to him, will be set aside; the sentence will remain irrevocable, and there will be no appeal from it, for there is no higher tribunal to bring the cause before; judgment having passed, the execution of it immediately follows: these goats, or formal professors, shall be obliged, whether they will or not, to depart from the presence of Christ; the angels will be ordered to take and cast them into everlasting burnings; they will be driven by them into hell, the place appointed for them; where they shall endure "everlasting punishment", as the Jews (p) also express it; and that both in soul and body, as the just desert of sin; which being committed against an infinite God, cannot be satisfied for by a finite creature; who therefore must ever bear the punishment of it, because its pollution and guilt will always remain:

but the righteous into life eternal; such as are justified by the righteousness of Christ, and who, though they have done works of righteousness under the influence, and by the assistance of the grace of God, yet have not depended upon them, but upon Christ, for life and salvation: these shall go into heaven, the place appointed for them, to enjoy that eternal life in soul and body, which is the free gift of God, through Christ; and will be a life free from all the sorrows of the present one; a life of perfect holiness and knowledge, and inconceivable pleasure; a life of vision of God, and communion with him, and which will continue for ever; and which ascertains the eternity of the punishment of the wicked: for as the happiness of the righteous will be eternal, the punishment of the wicked will be so too; for no reason can be given why the word which is the same in both clauses, should be taken in the one for a limited time, and in the other for an eternal duration. The Jews have a saying (q) which agrees with this last clause, "the world to come is not made but for the righteous",

(p) Caphtor, fol. 113. 1. Shalshelet Hakabala, fol. 71. 1.((q) T. Bab. Yebamot, fol, 47. 1.

As we read the Trinitarian commentaries believe Jesus is teaching the unsaved will have eternal life, by being punished, by burning FOR EVER and never dying.

However, we will see how Jesus was not teaching the unsaved will burn day and night for ever and ever, but instead Jesus was teaching the unsaved: will go away into (eternal) punishment, just as we read, and the righteous (will be rewarded) into (eternal) life.

Although we know the unsaved will go into eternal fire called Gehenna, HELL, the lake of fire Revelation 20:15, in this verse of Matthew 25:46 we clearly see there is nothing about fire or burning, but instead Jesus is talking about an (eternal) punishment and an (eternal) reward.

And below we see how Jesus refers to (the eternal fire).

Matthew 25:41

Then also He will say to those on the left, 'Depart from Me, those being cursed, into the eternal fire, having been prepared for the devil and his angels.

But so many Christians are confused and think Jesus is referring to (the eternal fire), that never STOPS burning.

When instead we will see in the coming verses below, that Jesus is referring to (the eternal fire) that does its job, that is not extinguished, until it KILLS and DESTROYS eternally and FOR EVER.

will go away into (eternal) punishment: To me this is obvious that Jesus is referring to the unsaved, who will receive an eternal (punishment), which is an everlasting penalty.

but the righteous into (eternal) life: Just as Jesus is also referring to the righteous who will receive an (eternal) reward, which is everlasting life.

And in Romans 6:23 Paul tells us precisely the (reason) for the (punishment), resulting in a deadly penalty, and for the righteous the gift of God which is eternal life:

Berean Literal Bible

For the wages of sin is DEATH, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Notice how Paul did not say: For the wages of sin is ETERNAL LIFE BURNING IN THE LAKE OF FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOR EVER AND EVER .

Paul tells the: For the wages of sin is DEATH, NOT ETERNAL LIFE BURNING IN THE LAKE OF FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOR EVER AND EVER.

In fact there are no such teachings by Paul saying the unsaved will BURN DAY AND NIGHT FOR EVER AND EVER who will never die.

And what Paul taught was IDENTICAL to what Jesus taught and what the whole Bibles teaches us.

Jesus taught us in Matthew 10:28 that the unsaved will be DESTROYED:

Berean Literal Bible

And you should not be afraid of those killing the body but not being able to kill the soul. Indeed rather you should fear the One being able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

Jesus also confirmed that being DESTROYED, will result in the second DEATH, which will result in absolute destruction FOR EVER.

James 4:12 said: There is one Lawgiver and Judge, the One being able to save and to DESTROY. But who are you judging the neighbor?

DESTROY and DEATH, never ever means ETERNAL LIFE, but instead DESTROY and DEATH means precisely what it says: absolute destruction, DEATH, and (ANNIHILATION).

There are no such teachings in the whole Bible saying GOD will keep the unsaved BURNING in FIRE day and night FOR EVER and EVER.

Verses like Revelation 14:11, and Revelation 20:10 are completely misunderstood.

Matthew 3:12

whose winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor and will gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

BURNING in fire dose not keep things alive, but instead as Jesus said will DESTROY and cause DEATH: Revelation 20:6

Blessed and holy is the one having a part in the first resurrection! Over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him a thousand years.

THE FALSE TEACHINGS OF BURNING IN HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER, Revelation 14:11?

In this article:

Firstly, is HELL REAL?

Part 1. The true meaning of Revelation 14:11

King James Bible

And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Part 2. The true meaning of Revelation 20:10

King James Bible

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

For Part 3. The true meaning of Mark 9:44, and 9:48.

King James Bible

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Part 4. The true meaning of Matthew 25:46

And these will go away into eternal punishment; but the righteous into eternal life."

Part 5 Scriptures Proving THE UNSAVED Will Not Have ETERNAL LIFE ROASTING IN HELL FIRE FOR EVER AND EVER.

We look at the countless scriptures teaching how GOD will NOT BURN the lost FOREVER, and EVER, but how GOD will KILL and DESTROY the lost FOREVER and EVER, implying utter destruction.

For the wages of sin is (DEATH), but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

------------------------------------------------------

Firstly, is HELL REAL?

Let us not deceive ourselves, HELL is the lake of FIRE called Gehenna, which has not yet come, but WILL COME on judgment day, called the great day of the Lord Joel 2:11: World English Bible

Yahweh thunders his voice before his army; for his forces are very great; for he is strong who obeys his command; for the day of Yahweh is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?

HELL Gehenna, the lake of FIRE will be for people who do not repent or obey GOD's commands, or who do not follow Jesus teachings, and a place where sinners and the ungodly and the WICKED will be punished, Revelation 20:15

And if anyone was not found having been written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.

Michael's Deliverance and the End Times

(Revelation 1:1-3)

Daniel 12:

1"At that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who stands for the children of your people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who shall be found written in the book. 2 Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 Those who are wise shall shine as the brightness of the expanse; and those who turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run back and forth, and knowledge shall be increased."

Many people may say, yes but I have never done anything that is evil, which may well be true, not understanding that Jesus said: The one not being with Me is against Me, and the one not gathering with Me scatters. Matthew 12:30.

As we see we are either for GOD and Jesus or against them, there is no middle ground.

Revelation 21:8

But to the cowardly and unbelieving and having become abominable and murderers and the sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their portion is in the lake burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

Surrender Your life To God and His Son.

Let us believe, repent and humble and deny ourselves and follow Jesus and be saved, for this is why GOD has sent and sacrificed His Only Begotten Son Jesus, not to condemn us, but to save us, because Jesus payed the price for our sins on the cross, proving GOD's love:

John 3:16:

For God so loved the world that He gave the only begotten Son, so that everyone believing in Him should not perish, but should have eternal life.

Why was Jesus crucified?

1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God, the One giving us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 1:10

and now having been made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, having abolished death and having brought to light life and immortality through the gospel,

GOD desires ALL to repent and be saved 2 Peter 3:9 - 13

The Day of the Lord

(Zephaniah 1:7-18; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11)

9 The Lord does not delay the promise, as some esteem slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar, and elements will be dissolved, burning with heat, and the earth and the works in it will not be found.

11 All these things being dissolved in this way, what kind ought you to be? In holy conduct and godliness, 12  expecting and hastening the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens will be dissolved, being set on fire, and the elements are melting, burning with heat. 13 But according to His promise, we are awaiting new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

Part 1. The true meaning of Revelation 14:11

King James Bible

And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

There is a most horrible doctrine taught within the Trinity and the Oneness Pentecostal faiths, teaching and believing the lost will BURN IN HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOR EVER AND EVER who will NEVER DIE.

Even when my wife Emma and I were deceived Trinitarians for 10 years, we NEVER did believe in such a horrible doctrine taught by most Christians saying our righteous GOD will not destroy the lost and wicked, but will instead TORTURE and BURN our lost loved one's in FIRE FOREVER and EVER.

How could GOD possibly be righteous by NOT destroying and killing and removing the ungodly and wicked from His amazing perfect Kingdom to come?

Psalm 104:35

Let sinners be consumed out of the earth. Let the wicked be no more. Bless Yahweh, my soul. Praise Yah!

How could GOD's new and perfect world to come, be a perfect world to come, when there are people in PAIN, BURNING IN HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER.

By the fact GOD will remove and destroy rebellious people who would not put their trust in GOD and His SON, is what will make a perfect world to come.

It is obvious to see how this false teaching of the lost BURNING IN PAIN IN HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER, contradicts the whole Bible, that says there will be NO MORE pain or suffering ever again as we are told in Revelation 21:4 There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

This is what makes our GOD righteous, by the fact He will reward the righteous people, and He will Kill and remove the people from His creation who refuse to believe and repent and accept GOD's love, forgiveness, mercy and grace, that comes through His SON Jesus.

Ezekiel 18:21

But if the wicked turn from all his sins that he has committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

In fact it was an absolute abomination to our GOD that people burned their baby sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods Molech, Deuteronomy 12:31.

In fact our righteous GOD rightly demanded that such evil people be put to death and be rightly KILLED, which is precisely what happened. Leviticus 20:2

And yet most of Christianity teach GOD will be worse by keeping the lost BURNING IN HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER.

How did most of Christianity become so deceived, to actually believe and teach a righteous GOD will TORTURE people in FIRE FOREVER and EVER?

Its time for the TRUTH.

Please may I now reveal the TRUTH, and show you the Biblical facts revealing how our righteous GOD Yahweh is truly JUST and WORTHY by showing you how the Scriptures do not contradict by saying in one hand the lost will be destroyed and DIE, or in the other hand the lost will NOT DIE, but instead will have ETERNAL LIFE in HELL FIRE.

Instead we will see how all Scriptures teach the same thing, and see the plain and simple truth, by seeing how GOD will reward the righteous, with EVERLASTING LIFE, and punish the wicked in EVERLASTING FIRE that DESTROYS FOREVER and EVER, which Jesus called the SECOND DEATH, revealing GOD's absolute righteousness.

Follow me in my research, and discover what I discovered!

Pray, Ask, Seek, and you will find said Jesus, Matthew 7:7.

Well, that's what I did, and look at what I found.

I found out how the most popular verse used to teach the lost will BURN IN HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER is in Revelation 14:11, and is completely misunderstood.

Let's have a look at Revelation 14:11.

New International Version

And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name."

The first and obvious fact is seen in the many false translations that most Christians are using.

Revelation 14:11.

Notice in the false translations below which all say: for ever and ever.

New International Version

And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name."

New Living Translation

The smoke of their torment will rise forever and ever, and they will have no relief day or night, for they have worshiped the beast and his statue and have accepted the mark of his name.”

English Standard Version

And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”

Berean Study Bible

And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever. Day and night there is no rest for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”

Now notice the CORRECT translation of Revelation 14:11

Correct translation of Revelation 14:11.

Berean Literal Bible

And the smoke of their torment goes up to (ages of ages) and those worshiping the beast and its image have no rest day and night, and if anyone receives the mark of its name."

Did you notice the different words saying (ages of ages) and NOT forever and ever?

Because most Christians read the false translations saying: And the smoke of their torment will rise FOREVER and EVER, they therefore misunderstand and think John is teaching the lost will BURN IN HELLFIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER.

Instead of looking in the Greek text and seeing and understanding the different words say (ages of ages) and NOT forever and ever.

Now when we seek we find that the CORRECT words saying: And the smoke of their torment goes up to (ages of ages) means in the Strong's Concordance:

(ages of ages),

Definition: a space of time, an age

Usage: an age, a cycle (of time),

So far what we have seen in the correct translations is how the lost will BURN for (ages of ages), in other words in a cycle (of time), which I am sure means will burn until they are consumed and destroyed.

Notice in our English, how we still use the words (ages), in phrase's like (I took ages), or (I waited ages), or (I slept for ages), or (they took ages), which is as we all know a phrase that means it took a long time.

And yet in the phrase's there is no exact time given.

We see in the Dictionary the meaning of (ages):

(ages):

Our English word (ages), used in our phrase's today, seem to perfectly fit with the Greek word used in the correct translations of Revelation 14:11 saying: And the smoke of their torment goes up to (ages of ages).

And as we have seen in the Strong's Concordance the meaning of the word (aión) is: a space of time, an age a cycle (of time), which is identical to our English word (ages), in our phrase's like (I took ages), or (I waited ages), or (I slept for ages), or (they took ages), which is as we all know a phrase that means it took a cycle of time, but the exact time is never given.

This adds up to why Jesus said in Matthew 10:15: Truly I say to you, on the day of judgment, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and of Gomorrah than for that city.

Sodom and Gomorrah
Is this the remains of Sodom and Gomorrah?

Because of what Jesus said in Matthew 10:15 that  it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and of Gomorrah, HOW could or would the punishment be DIFFERENT for the people of the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, if the teachings of all the lost will BURN in HELL FIRE day and night forever and ever was correct?

Here's something worth thinking about.

According to the teaching that the lost will BURN in HELL FIRE day and night FOREVER and EVER, this would simply mean the good Samaritan who did not give his life to Jesus, or the many sincere people who have never ever committed evil crimes, who may have done many good deeds in their life's, will receive the SAME punishment of  BURNING in HELLFIRE day and night FOREVER and EVER, as the people who have committed EVIL CRIMES, which contradicts what we read in Revelation 20:12 saying: And the dead were judged out of the things having been written in the books, according to their deeds.

Question:

If the lost, the EVIL, and the good Samaritan who did not believe in Jesus, are all thrown in the SAME FIRE, and if it were true that the lost will BURN in HELL FIRE day and night FOREVER and EVER, then what would be the point of being judged according to their works, Revelation 20:13, if all the lost, good or bad, still receive the SAME punishment of BURNING in HELL FIRE day and night FOREVER and EVER.

However, the correct translations saying the lost will BURN for (ages of ages), in other words will burn in a cycle (of time), now adds up perfectly with what we read in Revelation 20:13 saying: the lost will be judged according to their works.

In other words the lost will each burn in a cycle (of time), according to their works, just as punishment will be: more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, Matthew 10:15.

Remember that the people of Sodom and Gomorrah were already DESTROYED by FIRE, so could this be WHY it will be: more tolerable for the land of Sodom and of Gomorrah, on the day of judgment Matthew 10:15?

Sodom and Gomorrah

DISCOVERED - HISTORICAL EVIDENCE OF SODOM AND GOMORRAH.

We also know Sodom and Gomorrah and the people there are NO LONGER BURNING, and the people were completely destroyed, as an example of what is coming to the ungodly, as we read in 2 Peter 2:6

and He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, having reduced them to ashes, having set an example of what is coming on the ungodly.

Sodom and Gomorrah documentary by Simon Brown.

We see in Jude 1:7 how the penalty of sin is eternal fire, which does not mean the fire never goes out, but instead means the fire destroys eternally and permanently.

just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, having indulged in sexual immorality and having gone after strange flesh, in like manner with them are set forth as an example, undergoing the penalty of eternal fire.

As Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed, and the people that lived there are not still alive burning, physically or spiritually, but are dead and gone as an example, then we know for sure the eternal fire means to destroy eternally and permanently.

It seems obvious to me that if HELL is going to be more bearable for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, then that must be proof of the TEACHINGS OF BURNING IN HELLFIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER for the lost is false.

Sodom and Gomorrah

But please hold on, as I have saved the best until last!

What have we seen so far?

We have seen by examining the correct translation of Revelation 14:11 does not have the words saying (forever and ever), which deceives us into believing (NEVER ENDING).

But instead the correct translation of Revelation 14:11 has the words saying (ages of ages), meaning (a cycle of time).

And as the correct translation of Revelation 14:11 says (ages of ages), meaning (a cycle of time), that alone proves there is an END.

Because (a cycle of time) is a short part of time, that does not go on FOREVER and EVER.

Hebrews 1:2

Now we understand (ages of ages), means (a cycle of time), that comes to an END.

What about the words we have not examined?

What did John mean in the rest of the verse of Revelation 14:11 saying:

And the smoke of their torment goes up to ages of ages and those worshiping the beast and its image have no rest day and night, and if anyone receives the mark of its name." Berean Literal Bible

There will be no rest day or night Revelation 14:11, seems to still imply the lost will  BURN IN HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER.

So what did John mean by saying: And the smoke of their torment goes up, and those worshiping the beast and its image have no rest day and night,

Friends, the simple answer is given in Isaiah 34:10.

Let me please UNCOVER and share this hidden treasure with you.

Notice in both verses of Revelation 14:11 and Isaiah 34:10, by me adding the verses side by side:

Revelation 14:11

And the smoke of their torment goes up to ages of ages and those worshiping the beast and its image have no rest day and night, and if anyone receives the mark of its name."

Isaiah 34:10

It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever.

Did you see what I saw?

We can all see something very obvious.

Revelation 14:11 says: And the smoke of their torment goes up, have no rest day and night,

And Isaiah 34:10 says:

It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever.

The question is, what is Isaiah 34:10 about?

Well in the Trinitarian Commentaries which I have added, give us some useful information about what  Isaiah 34:10 is about.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible tells us:

It shall not be quenched night nor day - That is, the burning brimstone and pitch Isaiah 34:9, the emblem of perpetual and entire desolation, shall not be extinguished.

The smoke thereof shall go up for ever - Every river and rivulet is Supposed to be heated pitch, and every particle of dust sulphur, and a 1 on fire, sending up from an extended region dense columns of smoke to heaven. No idea of ruin could be more sublime; no idea of the vengeance of God more terrible.

Notice in Barnes next statement:

This image has been copied by John to describe the future woes of the wicked Revelation 14:11, and of mystical Babylon Revelation 18:9, Revelation 18:18; Revelation 19:2-3.

So Barnes believes John copied Isaiah 34:10 to the future woes of the wicked in Revelation 14:11:

Revelation 14:11 says: And the smoke of their torment goes up, have no rest day and night,

And Isaiah 34:10 says:

It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever.

Pulpit Commentary tells us:

Verse 10. - None shall pass through it forever and ever. There was a literal fulfillment of the prophecies against Edom to a considerable extent.

Says that the "mountains and the heritage of Esau were laid waste for the dragons of the wilderness" (Malachi 1:3); and he makes the Edomites themselves exclaim, "We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places"

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible tells us:

It shall not be quenched night nor day,.... It will be long burning, and shall not be extinguished until it is utterly consumed. The burning of Rome will continue long, especially the smoke of it; the kings of the earth, and others, are represented as standing and looking at it, and lamenting for it, Revelation 18:9,

the smoke thereof shall go up for ever; this very phrase is what will be used by the saints in their "allelujahs", at the burning of Rome, Revelation 19:3 with which compare Revelation 14:11,

from generation to generation it shall lie waste; the land shall be no more manured and cultivated, nor the city rebuilt; when Babylon is once fallen, it shall never be raised up again, but always remain desolate, Revelation 18:2,

none shall pass through it for ever and ever; no inhabitant in it, nor traveller through it; it will be so horrible and terrible, as none will care to dwell there, yea, not so much as to travel through it; see Jeremiah 49:18.

So as we have read according to the Trinitarian Commentaries Isaiah 34:10 was a literal fulfilment of the prophecies against Edom and a prophecy for the future of unbelievers as told in Revelation 14:11, which are virtually identical verses.

Yet in the end of the verse of Isaiah 34:10 we have a clear explanation to what the meaning is saying: It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever.

And here in the END of the verse is the actual hidden meaning of: It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever.

From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever.

Just as smoke goes up and disappears.

So there is the answer and there we have the hidden meaning of Isaiah 34:10 which is virtually identical to Revelation 14:11.

We clearly see how Isaiah 34:10 means utter destruction, FOREVER and EVER.

And NOT a NEVER ENDING BURNING HELLFIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER.

Now we know what Jesus said in Mathew 10:28, He was not making any contradictions, but taught that GOD will DESTROY the lost, which is why He called it the SECOND DEATH Revelation 20:14, which is why Romans 6:23 tells us: For the wages of sin is DEATH, which literally means to UTTERLY be DESTROYED and DIE, which will be a literal fulfilment.

Psalm 37:20 World English Bible

But the wicked shall perish. The enemies of Yahweh shall be like the beauty of the fields. They will vanish-- vanish like smoke.

DEATH means DEATH, and not eternal life, which now also destroys the contradictions that most of Christianity create in the false teachings of the lost having eternal life BURNING IN HELL FIRE DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER, Revelation 14:11

John 3:36

Berean Literal Bible

The one believing in the Son has eternal life, but the one not obeying the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

Matthew 25:46

And these will go away into eternal punishment; but the righteous into eternal life."

Psalm 104:35

World English Bible

Let sinners be consumed out of the earth. Let the wicked be no more. Bless Yahweh, my soul. Praise Yah!

Now we know and understand the truth, we very easily see how there are no contradictions:

For the wages of sin is (DEATH) Romans 6:23,

NOT ETERNAL LIFE IN FIRE.

Notice how Revelation 11:18 tells us how GOD will DESTROY THOSE WHO ARE DESTROYING THE EARTH:

And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and to give the reward to Your servants, the prophets, and to the saints, and to those fearing Your name, the small and the great, and to DESTROY those who are destroying the earth."
