Is there any archaeological evidence for Crucifixion?

"Seek, and you will find." — Matthew 7:7 Old article Did you know that punishment and ultimately death by crucifixion was the most horrifying, inhumane, cruel, savage, brutal, severe, harsh and heartless, atrocious, barbaric hellish, depraved, pitiless, unfeeling, uncompassionate way of killing a human being that was ever devised by man! It was a literally excruciating way to die hence the term 'excruciating, literal meaning 'out of crucifying'. It was also a humiliating way to die as a person would be nailed, often naked, in full view of the crowds that came to watch.  Crucifixion of St. Peter by Caravaggio Even worse and even more inhumane was the form of crucifixion in which its unfortunate victim was crucified upside down as in the case of St Peter. But how do we know about this horrifying execution which became known as the 'slave's punishment'. Many people today know of it by the famous film Spartacus in which the horrors of crucifixion were depicted. Photo of Spartacus film. The ancient Jewish historian Josephus also talked about it and there are other sources that refer to the crucifixion of thousands of people by the Romans who eventually themselves outlawed crucifixion for its barbaric practice. However the most recorded sources and most famous victim of crucifixion ever recorded was the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ alongside the two criminals on each side of him. However there was a problem here, in that for nearly 2000 years there was no archaeological evidence of this cruel and savage execution because of the fact that a crucified body was left to decay and rot on a cross. You see, what was left of the executed criminals was usually dumped as rubbish in a tip and quite often then eaten by vultures and finished off by scavenging dogs who loved chewing on the bones and eating the bone marrow as a special treat therefore leaving no evidence of a Crucified man. However this all changed in 1968 when another type of treasure to illustrate a truth was discovered, a truth that was again hidden on the earth for thousands of years. Only this time those truths would appear physically and would again reveal the hidden secrets which would then give us rock solid evidence, outside of the Bible, that confirms with John 19:32, which I will address shortly. For the first time ever the remains of a crucified man's heel bone was found accidentally in an ossuary with the crucified man's name on it, 'Yehohanan, the son of Hagakol'. It was believed to be in the same time frame that Jesus of Nazareth was crucified. Heel bone of crucified man named, 'Yehohanan, the son of Hagakol'. After the only heel bone in human history had been sent to the Hebrew University Medical School in Jerusalem they discovered that a nail had been driven through its side, indicating that the man not only had been crucified but the position of the nail indicated that the feet had been nailed to the cross from their side and not from their front. They also discovered olive wood fragments on the point of the nail indicating that he was crucified on a cross made of olive wood or on an olive tree. This led them to also discovering that the condemned man was crucified at eye level since olive trees are not very tall. It gets better, they discovered a piece of acacia wood between the bones and the head of the nail which is believed to keep the condemned from freeing his foot by sliding it over the nail. Here below is recorded in the gospel of John 19:31 to 35 information of the culture around crucifixion and its practice at in Roman times. 'Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. 32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. 33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.' The crucified man, 'Yehohanans', legs were also found broken just as they did to the two criminals. More evidence outside of the Bible that confirms with John 19:32. The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus. John 19:32. Friends it gets even better. Iron was rare in Roman times so they would always remove the nails to use them again. However in this case they could not remove this nail because the nail in question was bent so much at the tip. Now, amazingly history is preserved for ever. Here again is a treasure that shows us the truth. However what else can we learn from this savage, brutal, severe and harsh execution? Well we know that the Romans crucified people for a reason. It was reserved for people who they believed were rebels or criminals. In civilised society today where a crime is committed there is to be expected that if a person is caught then some sort of punishment is required. That punishment of course varies immensely according to each countries culture and customs and ranges from loss of freedom through incarceration to loss of life through capital punishment. But what if the criminal were our own son? It is hard to imagine the agony that a parent would go through in seeing their own child, their own flesh and blood be punished by way of execution and in particular crucifixion. Could we give up our own child to extreme sufferings for somebody else's evil deeds? Yes, the evil deeds of people who are guilty, deeds that some of us would condemn a person forever. Could we even sacrifice our only child to die for others who are good, let alone bad? Here in John 3:16, told by Jesus, the Creator and the Maker of the Universe God shows us the highest act, the highest expression, the highest manner and the depth of the love by the Father towards all humans in which he created since the beginning of the world, his unmerited gift to mankind - a gift that no man has earned or deserved. This is true love, there cannot be any higher love expressed by the Most High Creator of the world. We were lost in darkness but the Lord God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob demonstrates to the human race the greatest deed which no man can truly comprehend.    The Creator and the Maker of the Universe gave up his one and only son Jesus. God's heart must have nearly been broken to see his beloved Sons inhumane, cruel, savage, brutal and horrifying death. We know from Bible scholars however that the crucifixion was not the thing that killed Jesus. It was in actual fact the separation between Jesus and his Father while he was on the cross that had broken Jesus' heart that brought Jesus to his final death on the cross. God the Father and our Lord Jesus took the blame for our evil sin. The Pearl of all prophecies still being fulfilled today.

If only people would have faIth and realise Jesus was sent to save us, not condemn us.

Yet most refuse to believe and accept God/Jesus, love, forgiveness and grace. Not understanding God already new most would continue to fulfil Bible prophecies.

Discovered The Split Rock as told in Exodus 17:5.

Research and discoveries by born again Christians Penny and Jim have proven to be reliable and credit worthy. They travel far and wide revealing the evidence and reliability of the Red Sea of Moses, Crossing Site and Mount Sinai being in Saudi Arabia.

Exodus 17:6 describes the incident when the Israelites were in the wilderness without water. Moses was upon the rock at Horeb. He struck this rock and obtained drinking water.

Water From the Rock

1 The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.

2 So they quarreled with Moses and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses replied, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the test?"

3 But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, "Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?"

4 Then Moses cried out to the LORD, "What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."

5 The LORD answered Moses, "Walk on ahead of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.

6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

7 And he called the place Massah [a] and Meribah [b] because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the LORD saying, "Is the LORD among us or not?"

This rock is split through the middle and displays the pattern of water erosion and evidence that numerous streams came forth in several directions.

Penny and Jim, born again Christians Split Rock Research discovered it first in April of 1992, when they found the split rock in Horeb for the first time. Jim and Penny’s work found them living in the desert for 12 years and they have unearthed an amazing trail of biblical evidence buried beneath the sands. They have amassed a tremendous volume of photographic and video evidence relating to Moses and to the Exodus of the Children of Israel from Egypt. They are involved in both preservation, cataloguing and educational distribution of their discoveries.

Well, I do not like my research to be proved wrong and if I am, I always confess to Jesus and say sorry.

As it is not very nice to be called a lying deceiver, when I have always been telling the truth.

The email below is from  Mary Nell Lee. Widow of Ron Wyatt. Sent to me on 3/July/2013 This email confirms born again believers, Jim and Penny, were the first people to discover the split rock at Jebel El Laws. 

Yes, Jim and Penny were the 1st to film and photograph the split rock and surrounding area. All Ron told them was that Rephidim was on the "other" side of the mountain. Ron had not seen it before, he just believed that's where it had to be, based on the Biblical account. Still, that bit of information was not enough... They explored a large region to find it. Evidence of the region and the remains of the "cities of the plain" as found in 2000 year old historical documents.

Dear friends, I recently wrote an article called BURIED TREASURES . An exciting article detailing treasures that are buried in different times and places that speak of timeless realities to people of every time and place, that convey important truths about God and his Kingdom. Jesus left people from all tribes and tongue the truth waiting to be discovered, many of these discoveries buried and hidden on the earth for thousands of years were waiting for those who would dig deep. Only this time those truths would appear physically and would again reveal the hidden secrets which would then become more valuable than a pearl of great price. Treasures such as the names of people in the Bible, carved and printed on scrolls and rock solid clay tablets hidden in caves or buried in the ground never to be forgotten. PONTIUS PILATE INSCRIPTION Now more historical importance has been uncovered. More evidence is now emerging and unlocking the most hidden secrets of the historical existence of Sodom and Gomorrah including the region and the remains of the "cities of the plain" as told in (Genesis 14:1-3, 14:8-10, 34:3) This evidence not only confirms with the Hebrew book of Genesis. It is evidence outside of the Bible that indicates Sodom and Gomorrah, the "cities of the plain" were indeed situated and located on the plain in the southern region of the land of Canaan, the Jordan River Plain or the modern day Dead Sea. While I was studying  I was excited to discover an article about Sodom and Gomorrah on the Wikipedia site saying: Strabo states that locals living near Moasada (as opposed to Masada) say that "there were once thirteen inhabited cities in that region of which Sodom was the metropolis". Who is Strabo?   He was a Greek historian, geographer and philosopher who was born to an affluent family from Amaseia in Pontus (modernAmasya, Turkey) and lived in 64/63 BC - ca. AD 24. It is written that Strabo travelled to many places studying and writing. It seems Strabo was like the Flavius Josephus. Why is this interesting? It is interesting because his statement confirms with what I have always believed.  I have travelled to this southern region of the land of Canaan the Jordan River Plain, the modern day Dead Sea, 5 times filming and researching these remains of Sodom and Gomorrah looking to discover the truth. And just as Strabo states "there were once inhabited cities in that region of which Sodom was the metropolis".   This is the same region and place where I researched and found most of the evidence of the remains of Gomorrah right at the base of Masada and as stated by the locals living nearMasada, 1000's of years ago by Strabo.   If you travel from Jericho down to the plain in the southern region of the land of Canaan on the shore of the Dead Sea you see patches of buildings, shapes and shadows all the way down to the furthest point of the Dead Sea.   However the most obvious two built up regions are most definitely at the base of Masada which I believe is the ashen city of Gomorrah.   And if you then continue driving down to the south western tip of the Dead Sea you end up at a very built up region of far greater looking buildings, shapes and shadows   Strabo also states here: Strabo identifies a limestone and salt hill at the south western tip of the Dead Sea and Kharbet Usdum ruins nearby as the site of Biblical Sodom. How amazing!! This is the same region to which I took a crew in the hope that we would find the remains of Sodom.                                     Lorencia, Simon, Einar, Emma, Paul. ready to hike Mount Sodom   When we got to the tip of the Dead Sea we found ourselves staring at a very built up region of great buildings, shapes and shadow.   We found a sign saying MOUNT SODOM. Half hour later we were standing amongst what looked like shadows double Canaanite walls and many types of sphinx and ziggurats.    The courses of old streams, walls, dams and weirs with mortar joints, structures lining the banks of the streams, strange looking buildings with pointed and flat roofs.    Now for the first time ever we have more written historical evidence by another Greek historian, geographer and philosopher stating Sodom and Gomorrah, the "cities of the plain" were in the exact same places and region we filmed and researched. Only this time better still, Strabo revealed the exact region to be the same as written in Genesis 14:1-3, 14:8-10, 34:3 of the Bible and the same region my crew and I investigated. At the time when Amraphel was king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goyim, 2 these kings went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). 3 All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Dead Sea Valley).Genesis 14:1 We now have two historians confirming: 1. "There were once inhabited cities in that region of the dead sea, near Masada, under the metropolis" city of Sodom. 2. That Sodom was at the south western tip of the Dead Sea, by a salt hill, which I believe could be the very hill that my crew and I climbed. 3. Which was also written by Flavius Josephus, who stated that there are still the remains of the divine fire, and the traces (or shadows) of five cities are still to be seen. We also have writings which have been discovered outside the Bible, on clay tables describing that there were cities that were destroyed in a rain of fire. Archibald Sayce translated an Akkadian poem describing cities that were destroyed in a rain of fire, written from the view of a person who escaped the destruction; the names of the cities are not given. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities-and also the vegetation in the land. Who was Archibald Sayce? The Rev. Archibald Henry Sayce (25 September 1846 - 4 February 1933), was a pioneer British Assyriologist and linguist, who held a chair as Professor of Assyriology at the University of Oxford from 1891 to  1919. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia Interestingly Geologists have confirmed that no volcanic activity occurred within the last 4000 years, at the plains of Dead Sea. So where did the mysterious balls of sulphur come from?                 Simon holding the mysterious balls of sulphur found     Wikipedia now says: All sites that were located near the Dead Sea had evidence of burning and traces of sulphur. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia If we look in the pages of the Bible of Genesis 19:24, we can see where the sulphur came from. Then the LORD rained down burning sulphur. Sadly for many unless we are truly born again, we will not be able to see or understand these buildings, shapes and shadows, and the mysterious balls of sulphur. Unless we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, no matter how hard we look or how far we travel, we will be unable to find the hidden secrets and the deeper meaning and underlying truth of the reality of God's Word. As we still see today  so many  are still looking, yet not seeing, yet the evidence is right in front of us, but many are still scratching their heads.   The Bible has never been wrong! "Though seeing, they do not see; Though hearing, they do not hear or understand Matthew 13:13. Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Matthew 13:11. First we must accept Jesus, take up our cross and follow him, then we will discover his hidden secrets. Surrender Your Heart To God. As for others I hope you agree with me the evidence of these buildings, shapes and shadows, my crew and I found and investigated by the Dead Sea which was believed to have been originally discovered by Ron Wyatt, are NOW starting to shoot the sceptics and the scoffers in the foot. Ossuary of Caiaphas. HERE WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY ROCK SOLID EVIDENCE yet again of a man who was mentioned many times in the new tastament who met Jesus face to face.

In November 1990, in a burial cave in the south of Jerusalem, construction workers made an amazing discovery. They discovered a burial cave and in side they found a beautiful ossuary containing the bones of the famous high priest Caiaphas. The very same person in John 18:12. Caiaphas the High Priest, who was one of Annas’ son in laws. and involved with Annas in the arrest of Jesus.

HERE WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY ROCK SOLID EVIDENCE yet again of a man who was mentioned many times in the new testament, who met Jesus face to face.

What is also interesting, is we know that the Ancient Jews gathered bones into bone boxes called ossuaries after a year or so. WHY? Because they believed by preserving there bones they would be ready for the resurrection. And remember that Caiaphas and Annas’ and sons did not believe in the resurrection.
