My meeting with Sir Anthony Buzzard and his Testimony.

My meeting with Sir Anthony Buzzard and his Testimony.

On Sunday the 27 October 2019 my wife Emma and I met Sir Anthony Buzzard for the first time with more Unitarians.

This was quite embarrassing for me, as I used to teach Mr Anthony Buzzard was a false teacher, until over two years of debates I discovered I was wrong, and I was the deceived person.

I came to some videos by Mr Anthony Buzzard, and i started debating countless Unitarians for about 7 mounts, and my eyes started to open, and in time I came to a simple understanding by Mr Anthony Buzzard, and that fact was THREE separate persons makes THREE separate GOD'S and not ONE, contradicting the whole bible and the word of GOD.

This immediately raised alarm bells in my ears, which forced my wife and I to leave the Trinitarian faith, and leaving me with a righteous anger against the TRINITY faith for deceiving me for 10 deceived years.

So from there I created many videos proving the TRINITY was false and Jesus is not GOD.

My videos became very popular as I would get about 1000 to 2000 views in the first day, and as I added on my old video A DISCLAIMER, where I was teaching Jesus was GOD, and saying I have repented and I was wrong, that same video shot up to about 250,000 views with thousands of comments, and hundreds coming in every week,

My channel climbed to just under 20’000 subscribers.

But I still had some blindness in my faith, as I would not believe Mr Anthony Buzzard and Unitarians saying Jesus did not pre-exist His flesh, and I was teaching Mr Buzzard was deceiving people with his teachings about Jesus not being the word in John 1:1 and he said was instead  GOD the Father Himself.

Well after another 2 years of debating Mr Buzzard nearly every day, and Unitarians, I started getting brain waves, and thinking  Mr Anthony Buzzard and Unitarians must be correct, as how did Jesus change from an ANGEL or a powerful Spirit into a BABY.

And there were countless other logical reasons proving Jesus is not GOD and could have not preexisted his flesh, and my reason and explanations can be read and see in my videos and articles.

And I already know Jesus could not have been one of GOD’s Mighty Angels because we are told about this in Hebrews 1:5:
For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”?

But the pride in my heart was still holding me back from believing in the whole truth, until another red flag popped up in my mind thinking and saying, GOD always says and declares He was on His own, BY MY SELF in countless scripture like Isaiah 44:24: Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth BY MYSELF,

So I came to another revelation, that as GOD always says He was on His own BY MYSELF when creating the world, where Is Jesus if He was WITH GOD as the (word) in John 1:1?
Also WHERE is the Holy Spirit if the Spirit is a SEPARATE person?

Going to another scripture that made me aware of Jesus not preexisting his flesh that made me take the next step of faith in the right direction, and helping me to CLIMB over countless deceptions, was the verse answering to who John was referring to in John 1:1, which was in Psalm 33:6 saying:
By Yahweh's word, the heavens were made; all their army by the breath of his mouth. World English Bible.

Just as I was coming to understand the whole truth, that Jesus also did not pre-exist His flesh and was a MAN, my popular You tube channel was DELETED by You Tube for reasons I still cannot understand today.  I received an email from Google saying: Your Google Account is disabled.

The good news was that all my countless wrong comments teaching Jesus was the first born Son of all creation, and was the word in John 1:1 who was WITH GOD before creation, was ALL DELETED with my 600+ videos and millions of comments.

I felt like my heart was ripped out of my body, when I lost my You tube channel.

But I felt like GOD was saying I must now start from new, and only teach what is true as all my false teachings were now DELETED, with my correct teachings on the false TRINITY.

I now believe GOD made good out of the bad.
I already had another you tube channel HERE that was not as popular which had 800 subscribers, which i now use everyday.

Well I do hope I have not bored you to sleep, and as you have made it here to the end.

I would like to give a special thanks to Sir Anthony Buzzard, for his incredible patience, proving his love, and proving to be a true man of GOD, by helping the blind SEE, by communicating with me for around 3 years, nearly everyday, who was never, ever aggressive, but always so polite as a true gentleman.

Sir Anthony Buzzard often use to say to me, Simon your videos are great, and we need you on our side, and I use to whisper to my self, saying: over my dead body, thank GOD He kept me alive.

GOD bless.

Simon and Emma.

The (unique) WORDS by Job 23:13, GOD is ONE BEING with NO MEDIATOR!

Detailed Bible study of Job 23:13 examining the Hebrew words for “He is one,” God's oneness, and Job's longing for a mediator between God and man.

A detailed Bible-study infographic examining Job 23:13, the Hebrew expression connected with “He is one,” and the Bible's presentation of God as sovereign and one. It also compares Job 9:33, Job 16:21 and 1 Timothy 2:5, where Jesus Christ is identified as the one mediator between God and mankind. Research by Simon Brown.

QUICK FACTS: JOB 23:13 — WHAT DOES “HE IS ONE” REALLY MEAN?

Does Job Describe God as One — and What Does Job Reveal About the Need for a Mediator?

Research by Simon Brown

Job contains some remarkable statements about God, His absolute authority, and mankind's need for someone to stand between God and man.

One particularly interesting verse is:

“But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? What his soul desires, even that he does.”

Job 23:13 — WEB

Other translations render the opening words differently:

“But He is unique…”

“But He is unchangeable…”

“But He is one…”

So what does the Hebrew actually tell us?

JOB 23:13 — “HE IS ONE”

The Hebrew begins:

וְהוּא בְאֶחָד

vehu be'echad

The important word is:

אֶחָד — ECHAD

The familiar Hebrew word echad means one.

It is the same basic Hebrew word famously found in:

“Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is one.”

Deuteronomy 6:4 — WEB

However, we should be careful.

Job 23:13 is not simply another wording of the Shema, and translators disagree over exactly how be'echad should be expressed in English in this particular construction.

The central thought of Job 23:13 is that God is resolute and sovereign:

“Who can turn him?”

And:

“What his soul desires, even that he does.”

No creature can overrule Him.

NOTICE THE SINGULAR LANGUAGE

Job speaks about God as:

HE

HIM

HIS

The verse presents God as a singular personal subject.

This is consistent with the overwhelming language about God throughout the Hebrew Scriptures.

Consider Yahweh's own words:

“I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.”

Isaiah 44:6

And:

“I am Yahweh, who makes all things; who alone stretches out the heavens; who spreads out the earth by myself.”

Isaiah 44:24 — WEB

Then we have Israel's great confession:

“YAHWEH IS ONE.”

Deuteronomy 6:4

Jesus himself later repeated this as the most important commandment:

“The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.’”

Mark 12:29

Job 23:13 therefore fits naturally within the Bible's wider presentation of the sovereignty and oneness of God.

But there is another fascinating part of Job's story.

JOB LONGED FOR A MEDIATOR

This is where the argument becomes particularly interesting.

Job says:

“There is no umpire between us, who might lay his hand on us both.”

Job 9:33 — WEB

Job recognizes the enormous gulf between himself and God.

He longs for someone who could stand between them.

Later Job says:

“Oh that there were one to plead for a man with God, as a son of man pleads for his neighbor!”

Job 16:21

This is extremely important.

Job's words do not prove that God had no heavenly agent of any kind, nor does Job 23:13 settle the separate question of whether Christ personally existed before his human birth.

But Job clearly expresses the human need for someone to mediate between God and man.

And when we reach the New Testament, we find an extraordinary answer.

THE ONE MEDIATOR FINALLY APPEARS

Paul writes:

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

1 Timothy 2:5

Notice the structure:

ONE GOD

and

ONE MEDIATOR

Who is the mediator?

Paul tells us:

“THE MAN CHRIST JESUS.”

This distinction is enormously important.

Paul does not identify the mediator as the one God in this sentence.

He distinguishes:

God

from

the mediator between God and humanity — Jesus Christ.

JESUS BECAME OUR HIGH PRIEST

The book of Hebrews likewise describes Jesus as our great High Priest:

“For such a high priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens.”

Hebrews 7:26

Jesus gave himself for mankind.

Paul continues:

“who gave himself as a ransom for all.”

1 Timothy 2:6

And Isaiah had prophetically described God's suffering servant:

“He poured out his soul to death… yet he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

Isaiah 53:12

The man Job longed for—a mediator between God and man—finds a striking New Testament counterpart in:

JESUS CHRIST.

WAS JESUS ALREADY THE MEDIATOR BEFORE CREATION?

Here we need to distinguish what Scripture explicitly says from what different theological systems infer.

First Peter says of Christ:

“who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake.”

1 Peter 1:20 — WEB

This tells us Christ was foreknown before the foundation of the world.

Biblical Unitarians generally understand this as Christ existing beforehand in God's foreknowledge and purpose, rather than as a conscious divine person already living beside God.

Trinitarian Christians understand Christ's pre-existence differently.

But Job 23:13 itself cannot settle that debate.

What we can say with certainty is that when Paul explicitly identifies the mediator, he writes:

“THE MAN CHRIST JESUS.”

GOD AND HIS MEDIATOR ARE DISTINGUISHED

This pattern occurs repeatedly in the New Testament.

Jesus prayed:

“This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.”

John 17:3

Paul wrote:

“yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ…”

1 Corinthians 8:6

And:

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

1 Timothy 2:5

The distinction is remarkably consistent:

THE ONE GOD — THE FATHER

and

JESUS CHRIST — HIS SON AND THE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND MAN.

A detailed Bible-study infographic examining Job 23:13, Deuteronomy 6:4, Mark 12:29, Job 9:33, 1 Timothy 2:5, 1 Peter 1:20 and John 17:3. It explores God's oneness, Job's longing for someone to stand between God and man, and Jesus Christ as the one mediator.

Job 23:13 describes God using singular language and emphasizes that no one can overturn His sovereign purpose.

Deuteronomy 6:4 declares that Yahweh is one.

Mark 12:29 shows Jesus reaffirming that confession as the greatest commandment.

Job 9:33 records Job's longing for someone who could stand between himself and God.

1 Timothy 2:5 identifies the one mediator as “the man Christ Jesus.”

1 Peter 1:20 says Christ was foreknown before the foundation of the world, although Christians disagree over what this implies concerning personal pre-existence.

And John 17:3 records Jesus addressing his Father as “the only true God.”

CONCLUSION

Job Bible study conclusion showing one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, according to 1 Timothy 2:5.

A Bible-study conclusion examining Job 23:13 and Job 9:33 alongside 1 Timothy 2:5. Job longed for someone to stand between God and man, while Paul later identifies the one mediator between God and mankind as the man Christ Jesus.

Job's words are powerful, but we do not need to make them say more than they actually say.

Job 23:13 presents a sovereign God whom no one can turn from His purpose.

Job 9:33 reveals Job's longing for someone to stand between God and man.

And centuries later, Paul gives us the answer:

“THERE IS ONE GOD.”

and

“ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND MEN.”

Who is that mediator?

“THE MAN CHRIST JESUS.”

1 Timothy 2:5

That distinction deserves to be allowed to stand exactly as Scripture gives it.

Hebrews 1:10 – Did God Really Say to the Son, “You Laid the Foundation of the Earth”?

Subject: The title of this commentary is: FOREKNOWLEDGE AND PREDESTINATION DOES NOT MEAN PREEXISTENCE.

Dear friends, I Simon Brown have added this very useful info I received last year to share with you here on my blog, from Don Smith.

Don Smith
Welcome and I hope you find this group to be friendly and courteous, regarding the Biblical facts proving Jesus DID NOT PRE-EXIST His FLESH.

Don Smith.
I would like to offer some of the Biblical evidence I have gathered that refutes preexistence. In this post below I don't deal with all the verses that seem to imply a preexistence for Jesus. I can do that in separate commentary on each scripture. I’m sure you will recognize that Anthony Buzzard and John Schoenheit have influenced me, as has Dustin Smith and Dale Tuggy, Too many other people to list off the top of my head.

The title of this commentary is: FOREKNOWLEDGE AND PREDESTINATION DOES NOT MEAN PREEXISTENCE.

"Begotten today" and "born this day" refutes preexistence. It means Jesus was fathered (procreated by God) in the womb of Mary. Psalms 2:7; Acts 13:33; Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:18; Luke 2:11; John 3:16; John 1:14-18 ; Matthew 1:20.

Strong's Greek 1080. Greek word gennaó meaning : Conceive, Begotten, beget ; which means to to beget, to bring forth, conceive a child, to father a child, procreate a descendant, produce offspring; be born.

In the past YHWH spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, BUT IN THESE LAST DAYS YHWH has spoken to us by His Son, whom He APPOINTED heir of all things, and THROUGH whom He made the ages." [this present age and the ages to come] HEBREWS 1:1-2

Note: The Greek word  ion" does not mean "universe" or "world" and should be translated as "ages" which means a span of time, and in this context "aion" refers back to the statement "in these last days" which is a clear reference to the Age of Grace; Church Age; this present age; these last days; and the future Kingdom Age when Jesus reigns on earth.

Since most translators are Trinitarian, they think that Jesus was the one who made the heavens and earth, and they improperly translate “aion” as “world” or "universe" in verse 2. However, there are other Greek words that mean "universe" or “world,” such as kosmos and oikoumene. It is more accurate to conclude "in these last days," through Jesus, YHWH has made the ages: “the Church Age; the Age of Grace, and the future kingdom Age” through Jesus. Besides being an obvious mistranslation these verses do not say YHWH spoke through Jesus in the past, so it is incorrect to assume Jesus created anything.

"But NOW HE has been revealed ONCE, AT THE END OF THE AGES, to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself." Hebrews 9:26

"But WHEN the FULLNESS OF TIME CAME, God SENT HIS SON, born from a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law so that we could receive adoption as sons." Galatians 4:4

"He was FOREKNOWN BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, BUT WAS REVEALED IN THESE LAST TIMES for your sake, who THROUGH him are believers in God, the one who raised him out from among the dead and gave him glory so that your trust and hope are in God." 1 Peter 1:20

Jesus the Messiah was begotten and born. That means he had a beginning. To say otherwise conflicts with the entire doctrine of salvation because Yahweh cannot die.

The Bible says YAH provided us with His only Begotten Son Jesus to die for our sins. If his death was not a real death, then there is no forgiveness of sins.

“Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which GOD PERFORMED THROUGH HIM (Jesus) in your midst, just as you yourselves know — this Man (Jesus), delivered over by the PREDETERMINED PLAN AND FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GOD, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death." Acts 2:22-2
NOTE: Cross reference (Revelation 13:8) for more proof of foreknowledge and predestination of Jesus crucifixion. YHWH's prophets and representatives were clearly FOREKNOWN by him in advance of their true existence.  "........This grace was given us in Christ Jesus BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF TIME, but it has NOW BEEN REVEALED THROUGH THE APPEARING OF OUR SAVIOR, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel." 2 Timothy 1:9-10

This clearly means that, in YHWHs foreknowledge, grace was planned for us in Christ, but was revealed by the appearing of our Savior 2000 years ago.

"BEFORE I FORMED THEE in the belly I KNEW THEE; and BEFORE THOU CAMEST FORTH out of the womb I SANCTIFIED THEE, and I ORDAINED THEE A PROPHET.." Jeremiah 1:5

Believers have been FOREKNOWN by YAHWEH and PREDESTINED by Him for sonship in Christ Jesus.  "For whom he did FOREKNOW, he also did PREDESTINATE to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren." Romans 8:29   "He hath chosen US (the believers) in him BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD." Ephesians. 1:4

"He had AFORE PREPARED UNTO GLORY." Rom. 9:23
These verses are not saying believers pre-existed before creation, but rather they existed purely in Gods mind, in his foreknowledge, and in his purpose, from the beginning.

"Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the good news—relying on the power of God who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not based on our works, but based on his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages of time, but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the good news, to which I was appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher, which is why I also am suffering these things." 2 Timothy 1:8-12 (REV Bible)

According to Paul, Christians were given grace “before the ages of time." Does that mean we were alive with YAH in eternity before we were born?

Most Christians accept it to mean we were in YAH's foreknowledge “in the mind of YAH." The same is true for Jesus in John 17:5 where he asks for the glory he had “with the Father” before the world began.

These kinds of statements in the Bible relate to YAH's foreknowledge and divine plan from eternity. “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelation 13:8

Was Jesus slain before the earth was made? Of course not. Jesus was crucified long AFTER the foundation of the world.
What John obviously means is that Jesus was appointed as Savior of the world before the world was formed. This means God’s plan (logos), from the beginning, before the earth was formed, was to be carried out through the person of Jesus.

Reading preexistence into scripture rather than accepting predestination, destroys the harmony of the Bible.
Jesus and all believers existed in Gods foreknowledge as a forethought (divine plan) before the earth was created.

"See now that I myself am He! There is no God besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand._* Deuteronomy 32:39

"If only there was a MEDIATOR between us, who might lay his hands upon us both." Job 9:33 No mediator.....means no Jesus in the OT.

"IF ONLY there was one who would PLEAD FOR A MAN WITH YAHWEH, as a man pleads for his brother." Job 16:21 No one to plead for a man with YHWH means no Jesus.

"But HE IS ALONE, so who can make Him change? What He desires to do, that is what He does._* Job 23:13 He is alone means no Jesus with him.

The book of Job leaves no doubt that there was NO MEDIATOR between YAH and man and NO pre-existent god WITH YAHWEH who acted as a mediator between Him and man at the time Job existed (long before Jesus was begotten and born).

MUST READ: Bill & Stephanie Schlegel: From Trinity to One God.

Bill & Stephanie Schlegel: From Trinity to One God

When we hear great news, it is often to good to be true, so before jumping through the roof, I did a search on Bill and Stephanie Schlegel, and saw what Sir Anthony Buzzard told me about Tritarianarins Bill and Stephanie Schlegel, was certainly TRUE.

This wonderful NEWS, caused me to JUMP with JOY, seeing and reading about Tritarianarins Bill and Stephanie Schlegel, who was dismissed from his job at the Israel branch of MacArthur’s Trinitarian college.

Schlegel came to understand the TRUTH, that God is not triune, and Jesus is truly the Literal SON of His One true GOD.

There are very FEW who are willing to swallow their TRINITY pride, and repent, and be brave enough to leave the false TRINITY faith, as my wife Emma and I did, when we also discovered the shocking truth, which is so rare in a world full of countless confusions, BLACK HOLES and DECEPTIONS within Christianity, caused by the enemy.

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Revelation 12:9.

I find ALL of my Trinitarian friends do not want to know me anymore, and worse still, they HIDE OUT THE WAY, and are not willing to hear the Biblical facts and the PROVED history about how the TRINITY was established over 300 years after Christ, from the first Catholics and bishops, at the Council of Nicaea.

the first Catholics and bishops, at the Council of Nicaea.

Trinitarians refuse to believe I am trying to help them see this most terrible deception, and yet they instead think I am their enemy.
Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: “‘“You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.” Matthew 13:14.

As Bill and Stephanie Schlegel, Emma and I were one of most believing in the greatest deception within Christianity, which caused us to also SEEK and FIND as Jesus said, and we certainly did find the TRUE Son of GOD, the MAN Christ Jesus, and going THROUGH the true Messiah, by leaving one of COUNTLESS FALSE Christ’s, climbing OVER countless Christian deceptions, to get on the right side of TRUTH, now making it possible to get to the ONE TRUE GOD, hence, ONE TRUE GOD, NOT A TRIAD God, and truly be set FREE.

The question is?

How can ALL Trinitarians and the countless false faiths, come to know the truth?

Well, we need to keep praying for them.

We need to keep carefully SHOUTING from the roof tops so we can be heard, with the Biblical facts, showing and demonstrating the truth and nothing but the truth of GOD and His Son.

As Mr Buzzard told me: I note that Paul said “woe is me if I do not proclaim the Gospel”

But the MAIN answer is given by Jesus in the end of his teaching: For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’ Matthew 13:15

Did you see what Jesus said: and turn, and I would heal them?

It seems to me that it is the Biblical facts we provide showing and demonstrating the truth to all who do not believe the word of GOD, that will eventually cause a FEW to go to Jesus in repentance, confessing and as Jesus says: turn, and I would heal them.’

But what does Jesus mean: turn, and I would heal them?

Jesus is saying TURN from our PRIDE, from worshipping false Christ’s, and false gods and our sinful nature, repent BELIEVE and follow the TRUE Christ, taking up our Cross by letting go of the desires of the flesh and the desires of the world, to do the will of GOD, through Christ Jesus.

By taking up our Cross to follow GOD through His Son Jesus we are abiding in the word of Jesus.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, John 8:31.

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. John 5:24

I am adding this great news and video to my face book and channel and pray that this testimony by Bill and Stephanie Schlegel and their confession, and conversion will be a testimony for MANY more, while there is still time, Amen.

So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, Matthew 10:32.

“And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, Luke 12:8.

You can watch the testimony by Bill and Stephanie Schlegel and their confession, and conversion here:  https://youtu.be/9LA9Uq-8xMc
Videos reads:
Bill and Stephanie Schlegel describe how they came to a belief in the One God of the Bible, and His Messiah Jesus. They had been living in Israel where Bill taught Bible geography, history and Hebrew to college students.  Through the study of the Scriptures Bill came to realize that the God of the Bible is not a Trinity, but is One person, and that Jesus is  the Messiah, whom the One God (the Father) raised from the dead and exalted to His right hand. It took a few months, but Stephanie as well eventually came to understand this biblical truth. Their new found faith caused some big changes in their lives, including the loss of a job, church, friends and an international move. This is the first time Stephanie has told “her side” of the story on video.

John 1:10 — What Did John Really Mean?

John 1:10 — What Did John Really Mean?

John 1:10 — What Did John Really Mean?

A Study of the Greek Word ἐγένετο (egeneto)

Research by Simon Brown

John 1:10 is one of the most frequently quoted passages by Trinitarians in an attempt to prove that Jesus created the Genesis world.

Most modern Bible translations render the verse something like this:

"He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, yet the world did not know Him."

Because of this wording, millions of Christians naturally conclude that John is speaking about the original creation recorded in Genesis.

But is that really what John wrote?

I believe this verse deserves much closer examination.

The Key Word

The Greek word translated "was made" is:

ἐγένετο (egeneto)

This single word is the foundation of the entire discussion.

The Greek verb ἐγένετο occurs over 200 times throughout the New Testament and carries a wide range of meanings, including:

  • came to pass
  • happened
  • occurred
  • became
  • took place
  • came about
  • was fulfilled

Notice that these meanings do not automatically refer to the creation of something. Instead, they frequently describe events taking place or prophecies being fulfilled.

Matthew 1:22

One clear example is found in the account of Jesus' birth.

"Now all this has come to pass (ἐγένετο), so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled."
(Matthew 1:22)

Here the same Greek word ἐγένετο clearly means:

"came to pass."

It certainly does not mean:

"came into existence."

Nor does it describe the creation of anything.

Instead, it describes God's prophetic plan being fulfilled exactly as He promised.

My Understanding of John 1:10

After comparing the use of ἐγένετο throughout the New Testament, I believe John may be using the word in exactly the same prophetic sense.

For this reason, my own understanding of John 1:10 is:

"He was in the world, and through Him the world came to pass, yet the world did not know Him."

In other words, I understand John to be saying that God's purpose for the world is accomplished through His Messiah.

The entire plan of redemption, foretold by the prophets for centuries, reaches its fulfilment through Jesus Christ.

The world's salvation, God's Kingdom, the New Covenant, the resurrection, eternal life, and the New Creation all come to pass through Him.

Yet despite His coming, the world failed to recognise Him.

Does This Agree With Other Scriptures?

I believe it does.

Paul writes:

"Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we exist."
(1 Corinthians 8:6)

Notice Paul's careful distinction.

There is:

One God—the Father—from whom are all things.

And there is:

One Lord—Jesus Christ—through whom are all things.

Throughout Paul's writings, Christ is repeatedly presented as the One through whom God carries out His redemptive work.

Everything in God's plan comes through His Son.

The New Creation

The New Testament continually teaches that God's new creation comes through Christ.

Paul writes:

"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation."
(2 Corinthians 5:17)

Likewise,

"He has rescued us from the authority of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son."
(Colossians 1:13)

Everything associated with God's eternal purpose comes through Jesus Christ.

This includes salvation.

The Kingdom of God.

The resurrection.

The New Covenant.

The New Creation.

In this sense, I believe John is saying that the world, as God intended it to become through His Messiah, comes to pass through Christ.

Jude Confirms the One True God

Jude concludes his letter by writing:

"To the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen."
(Jude 1:25)

Notice the order.

The Father alone is called:

"the only God."

Yet all glory is given through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This perfectly reflects the consistent New Testament pattern.

The Father is the source.

The Son is God's appointed Messiah through whom His purposes are accomplished.

The Birth of Jesus

Matthew again uses the same Greek word when describing the fulfilment of prophecy.

"Now all this has come to pass (ἐγένετο), so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled."
(Matthew 1:22)

Matthew immediately quotes Isaiah's prophecy:

"Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel."

Again, ἐγένετο means "came to pass."

It refers to God's promises becoming reality.

My Conclusion

After studying the use of ἐγένετο throughout the New Testament, I believe John 1:10 has often been understood too narrowly.

Rather than describing the Genesis creation, I believe John may be speaking about the fulfilment of God's redemptive purpose through His Messiah.

Accordingly, I understand John 1:10 to read:

"He was in the world, and through Him the world came to pass, yet the world did not know Him."

This understanding harmonises, in my view, with passages such as Matthew 1:22, 1 Corinthians 8:6, Colossians 1:13, and Jude 1:25, all of which present the Father as the one true God who accomplishes His eternal purpose through His Son.
